5 1/2 million dollars, and no cry room? Was the general contractor the head of the parish council? That's what happened at the church I grew up in. We had always rented the gym at a neighboring Disciples church because we didn't have our own. When they finally got the money to build a gym when I was in college, the head of the PC handled it, and the gym ended up not being regulation. We could practice it in, but no games, therefore no gate $. Too bad Mike Holmes doesn't do churches.

No, the general contractor isn't head of the parish council. lol I'm not sure why a cry room was not added. The Church is absolutely beautiful though and the Narthex makes a pretty good cry room and at least they put in windows so that those out there could see what was taking place during Mass.

Wow, I've never heard of another Disciples church other than one around here. (Sorry to derail topic, just had to be all "oh wow another one.)

We're hoping to someday get stained glass windows. Our church is all beams, and it makes cracking noises when the wind blows kind of like an old sailing ship. It's pretty, but they don't make swiffer dusters with 60' extensions.

i have to remind myself of this and thank God for this every time i get to go to Mass (especially daily Mass)

that's your parents job, not necessarily the Church's job. it's the Church's job to help your parents do their job better, but the primary educators of the faith are THE PARENTS.

Once my mom let me bring cars to church. Then once for some reason we went to a church with a sloped incline. You can guess what happened during one of the readings. :lol_pound:

My parents never let me bring cars again. :lol_roll:

I would agree, but what should be done when the parents AREN'T being the primary educators?

I think that's probably why there are things like Children's Liturgy of the Word, now. It's either take the kids out or have them playing with cars and dolls and coloring and not paying attention at all anyway, because their parents won't make them (which I find more disruptive than the minute it takes for the kids to leave, and at my parish, when they come back, it's during offertory, when they have the kids bring their envelopes to the front, anyway). I'm not sure if I necessarily agree with CLOW, but I personally can't come up with any better options.

Once the liturgy has begun all baptized Christians should participate in it as a unified whole, i.e., as the Totus Christus. In other words, the liturgical assembly should not be broken into groups once it has been summoned into being by the priest's act of convocation at the beginning of the Liturgy of the Word.

So the REAL problem is the parents. So CLOW is basically something that is trying to cover parents who can't parent??!!

True as it may be, and I say this respectfully, please don't judge my family. Like MS said above, not every family is properly catechized and therefore aren't equipped to fulfill the responsibility of the children's formation in the right way.

The real source of all of this is bad theology / ecclesiology.

Well....

Generally speaking, it is the parent's job. But there are cases where the mother has to deal with a lot of kids and the father is not there nor likely to ever be there. (remember that aunt I told you about, eagle_eye?) In cases like that, I think it would be a good idea to have something similar to help the mom because she can't make all of her kids behave at the same time.

This is EXACTLY why this thread is inappropriate. When a group of people come together to criticize others, the group will begin to criticize each other.

You mean the little thing about how this thread has seemed to encourage malicious gossip and scandal; overall encouraging people to sin mortally in general?

It is not a personal criticism of missy or anyone else - no parent is perfect nor succeeds in all areas of childraising.
Pointing out whose responsibility it is to educate children is simply pointing out the truth. Parents are the primary educators in all aspects of life.

Yes sir, that is EXACTLY what I am saying. How are we going to bring anyone to the faith if we, Catholics, say bitter things about other Catholics?
