Apotheoun
While it is certainly appropriate to bring a baptized child to mass, I think we had another thread where it was brought up that the obligation to attend begins at the age of reason. Thus, parents have a responsibility to make attendance at mass a regular habit, but the child is not obligated to be there, even if baptized, if younger than seven.
You are confusing the obligation to worship God with the canonical penalties of a particular sui juis Church (i.e., the Roman Church) that can accrue from not meeting that obligation. The canonical penalties apply when one reaches the age of reason, while the obligation to worship God is intrinsic to the mystery of baptism. Apotheoun
The Church's obligations tend to take into account some practical considerations. You can baptize an infant, but it isn't always practical to bring them to mass.
In the Byzantine tradition children are brought to the divine liturgy and participate with their parents in the worship of Almighty God by receiving holy communion. Saint Therese
I've always admired that very much. I also really admire and respect the way ya'll havn't gone nuts with the liturgy they way some of us have. I went to a Maronite rite church once. Absolutely beautiful! My parish has developed a pseudo-rite: before the bringing up of the gifts, the children come to the front of the church and put money in a basket. It could be worse, right? Well last Sunday our deacon sat down on the floor during this. I couldn't even watch. So sad. Also, after Mass it sounds like a sporting event when people are leaving the church-very loud talking by seemingly everyone.
