Dust's Sister Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnS4IvApv8E I watched this last night. I think it's a good movie. I was smiling almost the whole time. I think it's a great way to show that having LOTS of kids can be fun. It's actually a movie that makes me consider having a big family. I dunno, still scared to have kids tho.. but this movie is just so funny! You guys should see it. It's on DVD now. BTW, It's GREAT for all ages! I give the movie 5 stars.
Mr.Cat Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I told Dust’s Sister about this movie, encouraged her to rent it, and I also was the one who watched it with her. So my thought when I saw this topic was, “I saw that movie!”
DemonSlayer Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 If you're talking about the remake, I thought it was terrible, at least the Cheaper by a Dozen films are slightly watchable.
Nihil Obstat Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I think I saw the original... can hardly remember though. I seem to remember something about pancakes.
tinytherese Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I prefer the original so much more. It covers the joy of being a large family better. Besides, in the remake, the parents get married really fast and then come home to their children and tell them about each other then throughout the movie the kids spend their time trying to break up the marriage.
Dust's Sister Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 Well I didn't know there was an original, I'll have to try to rent that one too
elizabeth09 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I only have the first Yours, Mine And Ours (1968) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-1hTlxfzgY Which by the way, is very cool to watch
icelandic_iceskater Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 the original pwns the new version imho, but they're both great films.
Archaeology cat Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I've only seen the original. I didn't realise it was based on a true story until now, though.

CatherineM Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009
Based on a true story? Did they really have a pig?
It's sort of based on Helen Beardsley's novel, "Who Gets the Drumstick." The circumstances from the original movie are pretty much the same, the number and names of the kids is the same, but they kind of mixed the ages up a bit. They didn't meet by accident though. They corresponded with each other as part of the bereavement process from losing spouses about the same time. The kids were also not against the wedding, and were apparently all for it, and well behaved. The only people against the adoption of the kids, where Helen's deceased husband's family. They didn't want the kids to erase the "North" name. They wanted his kids to still carry his name. I can understand how that happened though.

Generally speaking, you get them one at a time and He continues to provide what you need when you need it. Homeschooling them is an added bonus. You will never regret it. If you can borrow the book "Who Gets the Drumstick" you will be amazed how much Hollywood added. They did not try to get Helen drunk. That is definitely Hollywood. They really loved her. They were glad their dad married her. It is a good Catholic book to read as they were Catholic and devoted to their faith. It is an easy read and very well done. It is out of print but most libraries can get it for you even if they don't have it. Just ask. It is worth it.
