FiereMargriet

When I was an exchange student Belgium, I lived in Leuven/Louvain. The patron saint of Leuven is Margriet or Margaretha, called "Fiere Margriet" a lot of the time ("Proud Margriet"). The story goes that she worked at her family's restaurant and was martyred by a group of intruders when she refused to give up her virginity. Although she's not my "official" patroness (Saint Philomena is), I loved being in such a beautiful city that had a honest-to-goodness patron saint and since I work at a restaurant myself, she is somewhat of an inspiration to me.

It's so interesting getting to see what other people have posted! There are so many creative ideas here!

Wow I've been wondering this about a lot of your names....it's interesting to know.

So I play softball and a few summers ago I played on a youth softball team that was coached in part by a young woman who was preparing to spend 2 years overseas as a Jesuit Volunteer. We didn't know each other particularly well and I doubt she would remember me, but I had never seen someone so dedicated and fulfilled by something as she was by the Church. That led to my conversion! Yay for her!

I kind of fell in love with the (more orthodox slant of the) Jesuits after that, and St. Ignatius is still one of my favorite saints. Since I'm a girl and only guys can be Jesuits plus just "jesuit" is super uncreative, I made it feminin-ish-sounding and Spanish-ish-sounding (for Ignatius' home country) name. Turns out "Jesuita" is actually the Spanish adjective for "Jesuitic," and I do consider my spirituality to be somewhat "Jesuitic."

Also, I love Latin. Jesu + it(e) +a= girl follower/offspring of Jesus. Which is what I am!

My confirmation was St. Gianna! I remember one night I wanted a story before bedtime so my mother told me this story about this lady that had cancer and was pregnant. She had to choose between her life or her unborn baby's! Of course she picked her baby's life!
That story always stayed with me. So when it was time for me to pick a name I wanted to pick a name that well with my name plus when I have children I want to be strong like that!

And princess because I am a princess of God!

Yay! I took a test to see what spirituality type I am and I am apparentally Ignatian (yet a girl too.) St. Ignatius Loyola is awesome. I once had to do an oral presentation about him in my spanish class in high school and my high school's name is Xavier.

Ew, I read a biography of her. "Saint Gianna: Wife, Mother, Doctor" I believe was the name of it. I'll have to give one of my gal pals who believes that marriage and becoming a doctor is what her vocations are. She is an amazing model for motherhood!
Well, I couldn't think of a distinctly Catholic-like name for this phorum, though I had some gaming aliases which wouldn't have made sense here (and my newest psudonym "Fyrjefe" was made up after I joined), so I went with SMM, cause my mission of coming here was sort of to discuss sacred music with other Catholics, and heck, learn a thing or two else from hard-core type Catholics. The rest was just bonus. ;)
Nothing real creative on my part.

Mine is my name... or rather my first initial and my middle name. My first name is Eilis. Middle is Ann. 246 is the room number of my favorite English class in high school and I've used it in screennames for five-ish years now.

 Thanks! It makes more sense to me now than it did when I picked it, so... :idontknow:

Maybe it's just something I'll grow into... :)

I used to do a lot with sound systems at church and for a garage band, among other things. made for a few interesting moments... one time the lead singer of the band referred to me as Sparky after a really interesting moment, and it kinda stuck.

also, I have a short fuse when it comes to patience. A different friend at work used to always tell me "Easy, Sparky."

and it's better than some of my other nicknames...
