Maximilianus
A sword that is $69 dollars will usually be made from inferior materials and methods. For example, those King Solomon Swords are mass produced from cast metal parts. The blades, hilt-guards and pommels are made from cast metal. The blades are made of brittle steel that are plated to make them shiny. The pommels and hilt-guard will be an inferior cast metal that is plated gold or silver. The grips will usually be plastic sometimes held in place by a pommel that screws in or held in place by tang rivets. These swords are usually fantasy swords. A $179 dollar swords will depends on the manufacturer. Some manufacturers will produce inferior swords at those prices that are not recommneded for use, others like Windlass Steelcrafts or Del Tin will make better quality blades that can actually be used, they are commonly categorized as "battle ready". A quality $179 dollar sword might have forged carbon steel blade, this makes them strong and flexible. Instead of plating the blade they will be finished by polishing. The hilt-guards and pommels are usually forged as well, although some manufacturers probably cast these parts. The grips are usually made of wood, leather and/or metal instead of riveted plastic scales or tubes and are held in place by screw on pommels or pommles that are pinned to the tang from the top. Some of these swords are based on actual types that existed historically, some are modern creations. Sword makers like Albion or Christian Fletcher will charge you appx $400+ for their swords because they forge their swords the old fashion way from scatch based on actuall museum pieces or custom specs. Brother Adam
Since this sword will never be used in combat (or even swung) for that matter, I am guessing a really cool looking $69 sword will do the trick.
Maximilianus
Make sure that none of the etchings and designs on the sword contradict your purpose. You don't want to get a sword with wacky symbols on it. Take into mind that those fancy embellished swords like the "Robin Hood", "El Cid", "Exalibur", "Templar" etc. are fantasy creations that Robin Hood, El Cid, King Arthur or Hugues de Payens never used. I would just get the $60 version of one of the LOTR swords. They may be fantasy, but they are cool, plus you can't go wrong with Tolkien. Only problem is if you are ever attacked by orcs the sword is useless.
Brother Adam
I am thinking of one of these two: http://www.museumreplicas.com/p-648-cruciform-sword.aspx http://www.museumreplicas.com/p-628-battle...over-sword.aspx

Maximilianus
I like the all steel of the Cruciform sword, but prefer the fullered blade of the Dover sword. Nice choices. Those swords are pretty close to the swords a Crusader or Brother Knight/Sergeant carried circa 12th-13th century. Even unsharpened I imagine it can inflict some damage should there ever be an intruder in the home. It doesn't say if it comes with any covering for the blade or stand though, so I'll have to check on that.

Maximilianus
The product descriptions say the swords come with scabbards. The scabbards in the pics look like they are made from leather covered wood with metal furniture which is way nicer than the plain lether sheaths the cheaper swords come with. Museum Replicas sells a display plaque if you wish to display it on a wall.
