Wow, think of how far away you could pick people off from that bell tower.

So heaven is visible so long as the antimatter containment field is maintained? I sure hope Satan doesn't sabatoge the dilithium crystals in the warpcore or Jesus might disappear.

Holograms speak to people these days Todd. You just don't get it. Jesus is like so now. He's as hip as chipotle-flavored fast-food specials, vampire teen flicks, and remakes of 60s space fantasies. He's like all those things hybridized and wrapped in beige goodness. Only banners and holograms can contain his refulgence.

Haha. I'd like to thank the Holographic Jesus for all his support and etherealness.

Here is a picture of the Orthodox Church I visit from time to time:

There's an orthodox church I went to nearby which has beautiful iconography. They're all done with such care.

What a gorgeous temple. The house of God, where the saints repose.

:woot: Oik! You're back! Man, it's like the comeback month for a lot of PMers!

Where I work. The good news is our parishioners are about to blow a gasket if more sacred art and other changes don't happen soon.

That wall hanging alone should be enough to scare any college student away from church. It reminds one of the failing grade (U) in the system used in many universities here.

Here are a few images of the recently renovated Latin Church near my house:

Below is a closeup of the holographic Risen Christ:

Actually with a little work it wouldn't be half bad. I like the arches and the stained glass, the ceiling needs painted, the walls given some texture, and the floor some grounding color. The pews are insipid.

What is your favourite colour? Whatever it is, I hate it.
You get my point.
Subjective opinions about beauty and its relation to color are irrelevant. The colors used in icons have theological significance and are established by the Church's iconographic tradition.

That "crucifix" is by far the worst part though. The rest I agree is not too bad. Except for the altar being in the MIDDLE of the church. The windows, arches, and trusses in the ceiling are nice. So as long as you are not looking towards the front (or middle) of the church.

This is our church. It's pretty boring, but it has the ability to be beautiful with not much money involved. Imagine what it would look like if you plastered over that brick and installed sacred art there. I do like the crucifix suspended from the ceiling. We also have three devotional altars around the sides of the church, one for Mary, one for the Sacred Heart (our favorite) and one for the Holy Family.

I would keep the brick because it adds texture, add big stained glass windows on top of it with lights behind so you don't have to deal with ripping out mortar, paint that hideous ceiling its way too dark, and double or triple the size of the crucifix - it looks lost.
The problem with all these churches is the less-is-better approach. Churches are supposed a bit of heaven on earth, and after looking around Creation God is certainly not a minimalist!!!

They chapel also has a garden in it (because St. Margaret Mary received her visions in the garden) and it actually has a Crucifix that looks like a Crucifix, instead of an artist's interpretation of what the Crucifixion and the Resurrection would look like together (fyi, it looks like the Resurrected Christ with a cross behind Him-I don't see the any signs of Crucifixion). But, on the other hand, our parish could be a lot worse... Holy Family, Inverness.
That "cross of new life" is horribly tacky. It looks nothing like Christ.

BTW, our Church has the Risen Christ on the cross. I always thought it looked weird.

Well my pictures are very very poor. I need to take new ones to post. The ceiling is actually a lovely rich brown color with beautiful hues and luster, whereas the brick is very dull and an ugly color brown. The crucifix could stand to be bigger, but from the back of the church shows up well due to the huge curtain that hangs behind the tabernacle. It IS hard to see from either of the two wings. It could also use some more light, but is very cosy at about 3 pm, when I took these pictures.
