The rosary is a chaplet, not a necklace. It is a matter of respect. "Wearing" the rosary cheapens it. IMHO.

That is why there are speed rosaries, and decade rings.....
Wearing it as a necklace or wearing it at all? This is why I switched over to prayer beads. People in the east are a bit more sensible about such things.

i don't agree with it because people will see it just as jewelry. to date i've now seen haylie duff, usher, britney spears, and lindsey lohan with huge rosaries around their necks. i don't think they see it as a sacramental. i think a rosary bracelet or ring is less conspicuous and won't be like HEY LOOK AT MY ROSARY, so i don't see a problem with that. but as far as full-sized rosaries, i say keep it in a pocket or purse.

i was trendy for a day? wow... that is miracolous...
Though I like the drawing part... maybe during a "free time" thingy...
What about a decade ring on a chain around the neck? No, it doesn't fit the "ring" thing... but it's less... intrusive (i think that's what I'm looking for) and out of harms way from snatching a book or wall

gently loop it around ur belt loops on ur pants, and tuck the cross into ur pocket, thats what i do when i carry it on me, or in a rosary pouch thingy in my purse....or simply in my pocket. i try not to carry it around too often, bc i am really rough on my clothes and jewelry (which is why i rarely buy new ones/wear it) so yeah. ya gotta find what works for u, there r so many things u can do!
I was taught growing up that the rosary wasn't meant to be worn as jewelry.
i remember when i was in kindergarten or first grade my class was making rosaries. she told us that they weren't meant to be necklaces, although sometimes in church you might see old ladies wearing them, but that was ok because they were old ladies :P

personally, i don't really like to see it because as so many people have said, it's NOT a necklace and it would be wrong to wear it to make a fashion statement. but as someone else said, it may depend on the person's intention, so if someone is wearing it as a devotional then i don't have that big of a problem with it. perhaps a crucifix or scapular would be better tho.

I tried that once....and I lost the Rosary. In the woods, no less, so I never found it. And they were the ones I got when I made my first Holy Communion. :(

No way!!! So disrespectful!!!! Have we lost all concept of reverence??

The rosary is a beautiful sacred object with a specific purpose. It is not jewelry, no matter why one might think it is okay to use it that way. There are plenty of things to wear around your neck if you need a reminder of the God's presence...the Rosary isn't one of them

I think the Muslim beads are even worse...us Catholics need some representing!

Yes but a crucifix is also a blessed tool & weapon of spiritual warfare. i know many people who would feel naked w/out it. I think it all comes back to intent. Lets not forget God knows our hearts.
I would give 100-1 odds that JOhn KErry did not pray with his rosary. Hey did anybody see today they released his college grades.... He barely passed. A solid "D" student. (I find it a little humorous he nearly failed Poli-Sci.)

I would go with no, but on the other hand if someone is truley battling sin, you would be impressed what type of weird things sometimes help.

Nay.

This is the only thing about Medjugorje I did not like. People wearing the rosary. Blasphemous.
