Traditionalists are normal people, too.
I'm just wondering how you can argue that rap is literally music of the devil, and that death metal is just fine. Actually, I might have read that portion wrongly. I'll not comment on that anymore. Still, this is the kind of downright strange things I'm talking about:

Well not all Trad Catholics don't like Phatmass!
Praying you're wrong.
but I honestly don't see a single thing wrong with the music.
Making Him, who is not of this world, of this world. Sound fine to me, carry on!
It's nice to have music with a good beat that's actually talking about God and Catholocism! [sic]
Wow, I'm going to post this twice in 2 weeks: "You’re not making Christianity better, you’re just making rock n’ roll (in this case rap) worse." -Hank Hill
I have to say it's the first concert I've been to where the whole audience was given a lesson about Catholic doctrine between songs!
Doctrine without the culture apparently.
They came and gave a concert at a Catholic camp I worked at. And, by the way, there were other traditional Catholics that worked at that camp with me...and they loved PhatMass.
And the BTK strangler was a sunday school teacher (not Catholic). So what? People can be wrong.
Now I don't want to cross the line from annoyed to uncharitable, but comments like these are just uncalled for and unjustified. I just don't get it.

Thy Geekdom Come Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I think that anyone on there who says Catholic rap is evil because it makes Him who is not of this world of this world needs to go back and read the Baltimore Catechism section on the Incarnation...and then go look up the history of catechesis and inculturation for the last 2000 years.

KnightofChrist Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Rap or any genre is made evil by the lyrics and symbolic imagery used by the band and/or song. If a rap group/song uses perverse lyrics and imagery it is perverse. If a rock band/song uses satanic lyrics and/or satanic imagery it is satanic. In other words it is the message that makes something evil or good.

I do generally agree that rap is a lower form of music, along with country, rock, and similar forms, while higher forms of music include chant, orchestra, symphony, etc. That is simply because higher music has a tendency to lift our minds to God, but that is not to say that other music that fails to do this is bad, although certainly any music that lowers our gaze toward evil is bad. I would say that some music tends to make it very difficult to concentrate or pray, even hours after it's turned off, and there could be an argument that such music, because it is discordant with life, is damaging and bad.
Varg Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009
Lol, I just read an old thread from fisheaters.com. Apparently Phatmass is way too liberal for them. One of the best comments about Phatmass was that "it's like training wheels for young traditionalists in training." It was just too weird. If that's what people on that site are like, I don't expect to ever spend any time there. The discussion ended up turning into why rap is literally evil music. Now, I don't really like hip hop, but I certainly wouldn't go that far.
I wonder what they'd make of me. Hmmm...

In my personal and potentially erroneous opinion, I have serious doubts that you would be accepted by the general population of Fisheaters.
Varg Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 (edited) Wow, really. Don't reckon there are many Behmoth fans there if they think something like rap is evil. Hah. Just looked at Fisheaters. Scary stuff. Edited November 27, 2009 by Varg

Some of their members (and this isn't idle speculation, because I can back up my remarks) seem to be borderline (or potentially well over the line) schismatic, and I don't really want to expose myself to that to the same extent I use Phatmass. Edit: I need to stop complaining now. Srsly. Edited November 27, 2009 by Nihil Obstat
"You're not making Christianity better, you're just making rock n' roll (in this case rap) worse." -Hank Hill
i would generally agree with that statement. im not sure about the message, its not really my thing, but the general skill level/quality of christian pop/rock/etc music i have heard is fairly low. and i can count the number of christian metal bands i would admit to listening to on one hand. Candlemass(themes religious), Impending Doom (a legitimate christian deathmetal band), and thats all i can think of now. I didn't like that thread, and the final straw was when someone accused the current pope of denying the Real Presence.
