yeah i know, hence me saying they are religion themed often. not christian, though you sure wouldnt know it from a few of their album covers and songs.
Whoops, I misunderstood your post :P

If you think about it, loads of metal bands use religious themes.

i would generally agree with that statement. im not sure about the message, its not really my thing, but the general skill level/quality of christian pop/rock/etc music i have heard is fairly low.

I too would agree with this, for the most part. Point5 Covenant is one of the few exceptions in my book.

I actually don't listen to modern Christian music, so I wouldn't know. :)

listened to the Christian radio station quite a bit. I thought the songs were ok, get kind of repetitive though being played over and over again. I have some friends that listen to Demon Hunter that is a Christian metal band I believe, however, not sure if it is death metal.

Wrong vocal style for death metal, but close. i would say Metalcore, some similarities to Machine Head(a much better band actually :P ) Demon hunter isnt a bad band actually.

this is more like Christian Death Metal

Ooo, that was interesting. It's hard to understand what they are saying, and all the black and headbanging makes them look satanic. However, is it a very interesting cultural thing to look at because it really isn't satanic, it's just another way of expressing yourself. Still, if one cannot understand the lyrics, does that still mean that they are a Christian band?

I had decided to read some to give myself a fair look at them. I stopped at the first thread I picked, which was about John Paul II......... I didn't like that thread, and the final straw was when someone accused the current pope of denying the Real Presence. :(

Yea, that's butt. But, I liked reading a lot of the posts. A bit much of the 'rad-trad' but that seems like a kind description for some of them. I learned the word 'Jewdom.' I'd heard of 'Jewery' but 'Jewdom' was a new one on me. If I ever make a crossword puzzle, I probably won't use either word.

I just hope that people don't judge Phatmass based on our resident anarchists' posts...

Website seems to have false traditionalists to me. I liked Dust's explanation though. He needs to organize a youth rally near me.

On another note, does anyone else know any other Christian death-metal bands? Or non-satanic death metal at the least?

to Gregorius, i could probably dig up some for you, ive got quite a collection.

in fact most death metal bands arent satanic, though a fair biare anti religion in lyrics, ill try to find the other ones(i dont know the personal history of a lot of bands, so my listing is far from complete.)
aside from "Mortification" (which i havent listened to) and "impending Doom" i cant think of any that are actually christian.

"Death". generally thought to be the first death metal band. in an recent interview(before the bandleader died in 2005 froma brain tumour) he clearly states he he has nothing to do satanism, and despite the name isnt anti life. check out their newer albums, interesting lyrics, good production and guitar.

Gojira typically sing about nature and flying whales, etc :)

cant think of too many right now, for the most part bands dont come out one way or another(christian or satanic, though satanic is a little more common) and are generally just plain metal, talking about various non religious topics.
well, there is more, i wrote up a HUGE list of all the bands i have in various metal subgenres including death metal. i could post or PM that to you with the known satanic or generally antichristian bands deleted or somehow marked.

hope i can help.

I can't think of a single death metal band where the members are actually Satanists. Most of them just use Satanic imagery because it's cool.

Thanks for the videos, could I get a list of Christian death metal or even metal bands, too? Maybe you should start a thread in the Are You Not Entertained section.

Styper? They're not death metal and they really smell of elderberries but they're Christian.

I happened to see this in one of the posts in that thread:
Eminem and Coolio come to mind as well as some seriously old school stuff
I must be getting old when Eminem and Coolio are considered "seriously old school." Not just "old school," but "seriously" old school.

Well, I don't think he was saying eminem and coolio were old school, but that he liked them in addition to older stuff.

I'm amazed that any serious Catholic would consider Eminem good music though. Didn't see that one coming. Not so familiar with Coolio.

I haven't personally listened to Eminem before, although I will when I have the opportunity. I've heard though, that his creative skills, i.e. his actual writing and lyrical arrangements are of a pretty high level.

When it comes to rap, I'm a fan of Lady Sovereign. :saint:

Listen to "Lose Yourself." Great song.

A lot of Eminem's songs are obscene, however, so be careful.

You're right, I misread what he said.
