Jesus_lol Posted December 18, 2009 Author Posted December 18, 2009 (edited) they're lyrics are pretty nasty, even by death metal standards(primarily with their first singer), but not satanic, which is what this thread is about. yeah, varg, i didnt hear any particularily good guitar work either with burzum, i can forgive a lot of otherwise terrible bands, if their guitar playing rocks. though on another listen right now, they arent half bad. vocals are a little too much torture for me, i prefer stuff from immortal, destroyer 666 and belphegor. ThePenciledOne Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 I LOVE Metal. Though now I listen to mostly metalcore and hardcore now. Music is just taste really no matter what anyone says. If anyone is curious for a taste of good Christian metalcore/hardcore, just drop me a line!!!!
Wrong
thats what i get when i start to write one sentence and then finish with another "They're pretty terrible" + "their lyrics are pretty terrible."
Jesus_lol Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 so i found an awesome new band! Insomnium is a melodic Death metal band, with amazing often beautiful instrumentation, very minor key harmonies, and basically poetry for lyrics, though often sung typical death metal style. these guys are awesome, and of of the few metal bands i actually love their lyrics.
Insomnium - In the Groves of Death In the evening of a grey day, a bleak day I strayed into the dim silence of the hallowed trees Where the fir-trees whisper of those been, those gone Where the sacred earth still hides all those we once loved "O father, hear these words, your son is not made for this world Faint-hearted and careworn, into this vile life I was hurled In the woods the fiends sigh, I swear I heard the demons neigh On the seashore I espy the dreadful void under the tides" Ill-assorted with this life, these cares Each moment I am waiting for the worst to come my way Dark berry from my mother's womb; a frail one I was affrighted at my birth, bewildered from the start Better it would be to stay in the shades In the thicket of the dead, in the groves of death Here I would lie to the end of the days "Hear me now, my hapless son Warn away all yours fears Make good use of your brief days Life may be grim but death is more austere By yourself you sit and wait By yourself you will have time to repent" "In these lowly halls No moon will beam, no sun will shine In these narrow rooms No tears are seen, no laughter heard" At the dawn of a quiet day I strolled from the woods, returned to the hearth And with a restful mind I roamed The dreary shores, the darkling wilds Greeting all the days that befall Taking life as it comes
all their lyrics are terrific, also no sign of religion bashing.

Guest ZeweInAeternum Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 The only metal worth listening to anymore is either about Satan or suicide.
Fail. Most metal isnt about satan at all, and suicide doesnt come up very often either.
Guest ZeweInAeternum Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) I suppose I could have worded that better. The only new metal worth listening to is either about Satan or suicide.* Rabid metalhead since I was 12 or so, I've become tremendously disillusioned with the scene as a whole. The only new poo that does it for me anymore is experimental DSBM and doom, really. And occasional Razorback releases. Edited January 11, 2010 by ZeweInAeternum
lol, had to look up DSBM, though i figured the last two letters out. hmm i havent heard much of that, what do you think of Beherit? Im personally more into Death metal these days, though some newer black metal bands are pretty sweet. actually more into older style death metal, like Grave, Asphyx, Bloodbath. quite a few that i didnt list on this thread, cause they are pretty anti christian lyrics wise. have you listened to any of the ones i listed, or posted here? Insomnium above just released an awesome album. and In mourning is my favourite new band, their first album is awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glefRdo3zag and Doom is generally awesome. have you heard anything by Solitude Aeturnus, electric Wizard, Sleep, November's Doom (death/doom), Goatsnake, Bongzilla or Cathedral?
Guest ZeweInAeternum Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 UGH. Chrome decided to crash when I was about to submit a lengthy response I had typed to all of that and now I'm pissed. A shortened version, though: I respect the poo out of Beherit and the influence they've had on the genre, but Engram was the hugest disappointment I've received since Manowar's last LP. I don't think I've ever heard such formulaic tripe as Engram ): Death metal (aside from oldschool and experimental acts) has never really done anything for me and I'm not sure why...just not my cup of tea for some reason, really. Gothenburg-style melo-death never gets old, though, even though everyone else seemed to lose interest in it almost a decade ago :[ You've surprisingly listed three DM bands that I actually enjoy, though! First wave DM and oldschool worship bands (like Bloodbath) are great, but everything produced after '92 or so just hasn't been able to hold my interest. And that In Mourning track was a pleasant surprise as well. I'll definitely look into them on my next piracy run. Every one of those doom bands you've listed is great, btw. Are you into funeral doom at all? That's primarily where my interest in the genre lies now, and I could give you a ****ton of recommendations if so. Same with DSBM. Brilliant genre, that.
hmm i only have Engram, maybe i should look into the rest of their stuff. i do love me some melodeth. Amon Amarth, Arch enemy(had tickets to see them, but forgot to go. beaver dam), insomnium(new favourite) yeah the oldschool stuff is awesome, though i like finding that style of metal, but with decent sound production. i dont care how 'true' metal it is, if i cant hear the drums and guitar. personally though, im really into tech death stuff. Nile is a bloody amazing band ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-qmXNPg7so ), and same with Psycroptic ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHbu2xKP59A ) i think the only band in my library that calls themselves funeral doom is Ahab. its been a while though, shoot away.
KeenanParkerII Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Thought I would respond to your post in the hxc thread, since metal is like our heritage. ^__^ I don't listen to a lot of metal, but All That Remains is a regular on my iPod. (PS: It's a really cool video too)
