No.

If it makes you feel better, HCF, I would think it odd for religious brothers to be physicians or psychologists, too.

???

Why?

The first doctors were religious brothers and sisters and were exclusively for centuries!

Do you have anything backing up this claim?

Sure, and they could decide not to opperate on the assumption that a Muslim employee is incompetant because she covers her hair in public.

The history of the western world.

It was priests and monks who first studied the works of the greeks like hippocrates, and used their theories to develop medical practices. The monks and monasteries of europe acted as hospitals throughout the middle ages.

It was university-educated men who didn't happen to enter the religious life who became the first "professional" lay doctors.

Yea, I agree. I don't know what this is in response to or what it is an example for but it seems to be to a logical if, then statement haha.

Btw I do think this rather odd. I personally would have changed the name of the Diversity group first (so it wouldn't include the word "TRINITY") then the Diploma then of the School name to better reflect "diversity" and "not offend" people (that is if I held their views...) Do they not realize every time they say 2010 (even if they don't say AD and say CE or whatever instead) they are still counting from when we estimated Christ to be born? Stupid. Please, show some consistency and really make a fuss and push for a different system of dating years. I still wouldn't agree with them, but at least then I'd respect them for being intellectually consistent.

This does not match your claim.

You claimed that "The first doctors were religious brothers and sisters and were exclusively for centuries!"

The field of medicine existed long before Christ founded the Catholic Church.

Except no one here said or implied that a Muslim hair stylist is incompetent. :)

if being on the job hunt for this long has taught me anything, its that competency guarantees you nothing.

I am the only one who thinks it is odd that a Sister is going to medical school?
[/quote]
Yes. Are you not aware of the rich heritage that sisters have had in the medical field in past ages, particularly in this country?

I am certainly aware of the rich heritage of religious sisters as nurses, but I cannot recall any rich heritage of sisters as medical school trained physicians.

???

Yes. The field did exist. But not in a recognizable form. It was the religious brothers and sisters who brought it to a place of recognition above folksy medecine. Medicine as a discipline of study and an honorable profession comes from them.

You said it's "odd" that a religious would be a doctor. It's not. They have been doctors ever since there was such a thing.

Lilllabettt

so ... you don't want to say the reason why you think religious being professionals is weird.

Is it a stupid reason, or something?

Because that's what people tend to assume

When you won't say what it is.

I do not have to have a particular reason for thinking it weird.

A person's opinion of what is weird is almost completely subjective and is often based on preconceptions rather than on logic or on facts.
