It is an excellent article, which I read at the suggestion of someone with an uncannily familiar name :nun: , and is something I would recommend anyone read. I can see myself in parts of it but it doesnt quite rip my heart out the same way reading stuff like this does.

A Carmelite, my darling, is a soul who has gazed on the Crucified, who has seen Him offering Himself to His Father as a Victim for souls and, recollecting herself in this great vision of the charity of Christ, has understood the passionate love of His soul, and has wanted to give herself as He did! Bl Elizabeth of the Trinity[/i]

I need to think on this more anyway. In the mean time are there other cloistered Dominicans besides the Summit NJ ones? Not that they are bad or something on the contrary from over teh interwebz they look and sound wonderful but are there others? Also, say I joined the Dominicans how long after my entrance can I start inquisitioning people? Furthermore is it necessary to fall UP the stairs or is that only with some communities? :saint:

First of all miss vee, you speak English. So I think you'll be fine. I'm not sure if they have a bar, I'll check next time.

There are cloistered Dominicans in California. I accidentally ran across a blog yesterday of a woman who has a friend who just joined them.

There are many others. I just found the Web site of the Association of Dominican nuns (not Sisters) in the U.S.

Here is the list of communities.

Like you Very few saint speak to me a strongly as Elizabeth for she is somehow able to condense Carmelite spirituality into a unity. Father Phillipon's book on her is a classic especially the chapter on Ascesis of silence.

Laughing... as far as inquisitioning people.... I thought you had been doing that all along! :harhar:

Wonderin how does on fall up the steps? For me i was dragged by my hair! :owned::w00t::crusader:

http://www.usaopnuns.org/

This page shows most of the monasteries of Dominican nuns in the US and Canada. many of the monasteries have web pages. Some of those that have hyperlinks are no longer working, but this is a good place to start searching for other cloistered Dominicans.

Thanks Iggy! I looked at the site for the ones in BC and maybe Im missing something again but they also dont seem to have anything about vocations. Also, and its kind of nitpicky, but I dont like how they use the word "space" when referring to the church ie they write "liturgical space." In my little world (population one) I start to get a little extra suspicious when I see that word on a religious community's site.

TRAITOR! You will be sent to the Inquisition for such heresy - leaving the Carmelites for the Dominicans?? :nono: :hardhead:

Oh, I know what it is, you have a fever, right? You are sick or insane and need help.

Srsly, I love the Dominicans, but a Carmelite can never run away from 'her' saints. Holy Mother Saint Teresa and Holy Father St John will send all the others after you until you recant your heresy and return to Mt Carmel.

Do you think I haven't tried to leave? Do you think I want to live a life of tears :cry4: and self-abnegation when I could be in a library reading good books :bible: and debating spiritual topics with my sisters? :scholar:

But noooooo, God calls some of us into the desert :alone: and like Jeremiah, we can't fight it even if we want to! When your heart starts burning again every time you read a quote from a Carmelite saint, or see a picture of a Carmelite nun, then what are you going to do? :hehe:

So, prithee, get thee to a (Carmelite) nunnery and enough of this delusion about Dominicans (nice as they are). If you are called to get on that empty Cross with the Beloved.... where will you run that He can't find you?:owned:

Srsly :nun3:
