Libcath2000 Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012
Makes me feel claustrophobic just looking at it. And half my food ends up on my clothes anyway, so I'm glad what I'm looking at is a lifetime of black on black EDIT: Chenoweth!!
In fairness, most traditional habits do seem a little claustrophobic. Check out these Orthodox habits.
Kayte Postle Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 (edited) Those habits look sooooo heavy! That is one intense habit.. Edited February 19, 2012 by Kayte Postle
marigold Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Woop woop! Yeah they're pretty intense - that's the tipper-toppermost level of nun, hardly ANYONE gets to it. That photo is a rarity in itself, seeing so many Great Schema nuns together. The 'standard' nun is what the other nun in the picture is wearing. (Plus she's got a cross because she's an Abbess.) My nuns' church habits are made from some lovely light material, it's almost translucent and very c.ool. Their mantles are made of wool but apart from that the whole lot doesn't look too heavy. Yeah seriously though even I am impressed by those Great Schemas
Pax_et bonum Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012
There are not real nuns but I do like the habits . . . From the ABC television show, "Pushing Daisies"
Reminds me of the old Sisters of Holy Cross habits though theirs is more back I think a Holy Cross priest told me that the sisters would make snow angels and the angels would have halos from their wimple(?). You should see the machine they had to use to flute them!

I can't imagine how she got through a doorway with that towering headdress
Nunsense Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012
The size of those rosary beads!!!
Before I ever became a Catholic, I used to love Rosaries and Crucifixes, so I bought a set of Rosary beads the same size as those in the photo, but made of brown wood, and I hung them on a nail near my bed (didn't really know how to use them) and put a giant Crucifix over my bed. God works in funny ways. I attribute my conversion to the Rosary because my first experience of Catholics was praying the Rosary every night with my neighbour's family when I was a little girl. Our Lady is wonderful

I think the Benedictine habit is just as beautiful as the Carmelite one, and black is just as nice as brown! This is me in habit on my Clothing Day as a Carmelite. It will be interesting to do it again as a Benedictine. The habit of Our Lady of the Rock nuns...
