Woah, I didn't know that the Crystal Cathedral was in bankruptcy. How can the Catholic church afford that? It sure would make a spectacular Catholic Cathedral though.

It's official. The Catholic Diocese bid $50 million for it.

Boo.

For $50 million, they could have built a really nice cathedral from scratch.

It's true.... http://www.christianpost.com/news/crystal-cathedral-gets-50-million-bid-from-catholics-52755/

This is a sad, terrible day in Catholic history.

Then, when you look at the bishops page he notes how:

Enrollment in religious education classes often drops dramatically after First Communion.
Less than half of the Catholic students who attend our schools come to Mass regularly on the weekend because their parents don’t.
The fervor that leads up to Confirmation often fades and few teens remain involved after the celebration.
After their wedding, few couples remain connected or involved in a parish.
Some baptized and received at Easter often lose their enthusiasm, become disconnected and are not around regularly after a year or two.
Many of our catechists/teachers do not take the time to work on their basic certification in religious formation.

Save the liturgy, Your Excellency, save the world!

Gah. This is awful. It's terribly ugly. Why can't they just build an actual cathedral that looks like it's a Catholic Church and not an ugly skyscraper??

That's a pretty good price, they could tear it down and for another $15MM, they could build something quite proper.

(here's to hoping)
