Favorite Songs That Inspire

Too late to edit, but here's another really good version of number 3 (hopefully it embeds too):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZaRVLkLC44

1. An awe.some remix (imo better than the original) which says poetically what I believe is the aim of monastic life.

2. No embarrassment in saying I love this song and find that it mirrors a lot of things I've gone through in trying to become a nun.

3. My favourite setting of my favourite psalm.

I would say the below is a 'negative inspiration'. I love it as music, but it reminds me soo much of everything I've left behind and what my life used to look like before I was received into the Church. It reminds me how poor and sad the things I sometimes miss really are, and what a privilege it is to be a Christian and constantly breathe the rarefied air of holiness in the Church.  :)

I have absolutely no idea what this song is actually about, but it definitely spoke to me when I was discerning.

(A little corny and not theologically accurate I'll admit.)

(Modern hymnals update "bowels" to "mercies"...sounds a bit better, they talked weird back then.)

I can find elements of my relationship with the Lord in every love song I hear.... But here are a few favorites.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=927kKHx5C2c&list=LL5jz7O9SRRMo_CgUhCaYgeQ&index=54

It's hard to explain, but the idea of Home has a lot of meaning for me. Especially the lines, "It's not just where you lay your head, it's not just where you make your bed, it's where you go when you're alone, it's where you go to rest your bones... As long as were together, it doesn't matter where we go/ Home." Basically, the whole song.

And this music video.

And the last one really speaks to me heart, especially when my parish plays it just after I've received communion... I like to think of the places like the "barren desert" and "raging waters" and standing before the "power of hell" as spiritual states and experiences, not physical places.

These are the songs that I listen when my prayers are dry and as we say discernment as well.

Discover this 2 months ago;

1. Your Heart Today

And when I've done all that I could
Yet there are hearts I cannot move
Lord, give me hope
That I may be Your heart today

2.  Blessings (Laura Story)

What if my greatest disappointments or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can't satisfy
What if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are your mercies in disguise

3. Far Greater Love

The storms of life may shake our ground,
a greater peace still dwells in our hearts.
The dreams we build may fall apart,
A deeper hope still runs in our hearts.
Fear no harm, we are ruled by a far greater love,
a far greater love

4. Prayer of St Ignatius (Prayer of Generosity)

Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
to give and not to count the cost,
to fight and not to heed the wounds,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labor and not to ask for reward,
save that of knowing that I do your will

Pleasantly surprised to come on here and find no one has torn me down for including pop music. (Are we rebuilding the genteel culture of VS? :) :) :))

Just managed to inspire myself all over again by listening to my choices. Off to pray!

My songs?

Mostly instrumental, as I'm a musician. :) (descant and bass recorders, and I play folk and baroque with my dad. He plays alto recorder) Vivaldi and classical music in general, also "Into the West" help me out of blue funks and help me think of God.
