In the U.S., at least, this kind of tie is worn most often as part of a school uniform, and should be available over the Internet. However, I know you are not in the U.S., so the Internet may or may not be the best option for you. I don't think you should be embarassed AT ALL to ask the Sisters for suggestions about where you can get the tie. The Sisters may actually have a supply of ties from former postulants, as the tie is probably something that doesn't wear out quickly. Good luck!
Lily May Gath Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Hi Carla, try this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/ADJUSTABLE-GIRLS-SCHOOL-UNIFORM-CROSS-TIE-BY-FRENCH-TOAST-ASSORTED-COLORS-/181458210743?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item2a3fc08fb7 Lily
Pia Jesu Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 What great news, Carla! My prayers are with you! :nun1: For anyone else needing last minute, hard-to-find items (ie: trunk-style "snuggies," long-sleeve cotton nightgowns, blouses with Peter Pan collars, etc.) try http://www.vermontcountrystore.com It was recommended by a friend entering a Visitation Monastery. She was even able to purchase her black jumpers from the company!
marigold Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Hi Carla, try this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/ADJUSTABLE-GIRLS-SCHOOL-UNIFORM-CROSS-TIE-BY-FRENCH-TOAST-ASSORTED-COLORS-/181458210743?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item2a3fc08fb7 Lily Yes, I thought it was called a 'cross tie' and that link confirmed it!
Swami Mommy Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I may be the only one thinking this, but I should think that any order that requires a postulant 'uniform' should have a specific list of product sites that they could give to entering postulants that would create a more consistent look for their postulants. If an order wants a postulant to wear a long gray skirt, for example, then why doesn't it offer three different style suggestions from commercial manufacturers or from a uniform company to select from? Or as an alternative, come up with three different patterns from a sewing company that the girls could use to sew their own or have a seamstress make for them? If Catholic schools or prep schools can get school uniforms, then why aren't religious orders using these manufacturers as well? Obviously underwear is individual, but what about shoes, blouses, coats, purses, etc? If a professed sister or nun wears a standard habit, then why aren't the postulants' outfits also standardized? If an order allows individualized clothing but requires a certain modest appearance with clothes that are not in current fashion, then it would behoove the order to give a selection of examples to choose from. Just my two cents with a dash of frustration and annoyance for those who have to second guess and hunt for non-mainstream items of clothing. You have my sympathy!
Strictlyinkblot Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 In theory the stuff on my list should be easy to get. However, its stupidly difficult to find white, cotton, long sleeved blouses (permanent press if possible) at a decent price. And cotton half-slips. If anyone is looking for knee length socks its hard to beat www.sockshop.co.uk and they ship worldwide.
Carla Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 First i want to thank you all for your help.I have found out that it is called cross tie and i have found this easy on E bay and order it on very good price. When i think better it has been easier to just ask sisters but i have been to exited yesterday to think about this right. For me it is important that i have found it and order it. I do not think that this is something important but It is listed on my postulate outfit and i intend to wear it.Rest of the outfit is is pretty easy to get it at lest here at my town. I have buy few white simple shirts, some long black skirts and vest.Only what is left is shoes but i i hope so i will fix this soon also.

Though I am hardly active on this site, I couldn't help but notice that one of my old threads was bumped up. Are you in the UK? I'll do a target search and see what I can come up with. Unfortunately, I can't spend much time on it these days, but I understand how difficult it can be to find something.

kg94 Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Thanks! I'm not sure if there are any UK candidates on Phatmass, but they are certainly welcome to add to the list. :) I'll tell you what's crazily hard to find in the UK - long, full length, plain, sensible brown skirts. They seem to be an impossibility to find! And yes, I was in the UK, though I am now studying abroad since I decided to do a degree before entering fully into the convent. If you do get the list and find suppliers etc, please could you pm me so I could put it up on our website: The Vocation Operation - http://vocationoperation.blogspot.com so that people can find what they need with more ease. Thank-you. God bless. x
