Ed Normile
I read a few of the responses here. Porn is not a problem? That may be in certain circles, I guess women or men debasing themselves for money is a great thing for some people. Others suffering from decay of their souls and those who have suffered from more immediately noticeable ailments such as STDS may find it problematic. What I truly find sickening is that one could actually say that porn is not a problem. I wonder what type of person would be proud of their son or daughter who worked in the porn industry? For that matter what child grows up with aspirations to some day be a porn star? I would think these are either people with no sense of self worth who feel they have no other way to earn a living, or in some cases persons with a type of mental disorder who turn to this work. ed

Ed Normile
Well, I mean, if Ted Bundy said it then it must be true. But in all seriousness, pornography can be a trigger. So can sex. So can sexual frustration. So can rejection. Plenty of straight, married couples make their own pornography which they retain for their private usage. Pornography can be harmless. Or it can be degrading and crushing. It depends on the context.
This you know, how? Plenty is such a vague amount, in your experience would it be 50% of "straight, married couples" or maybe 35% or would it be higher maybe? Would these personal porno stars/producers fall into the 1% of the population who are described as suffering from Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Or perhaps they are exhibissionists? Or maybe they are Hedonists, in any case do you really feel this is healthy and normal, is this using your sexuality as God intended or does it border on something immoral or evil? Do these "straight, married couples" hide this pornoraphy from their children and their family or friends or is this a sharing experoence where they corrupt others with their "harmless pornography" If they do hide this stuff, is that healthy, or does that say that deep inside them, maybe in what is left of their soul they know its wrong? Just wondering. ed

Honest work is what God intends, I could fill pages with quotes from the bible on this very topic. It's very difficult to find in this economy. Most work either requires soul crushing moral compromise (which encapsulates most well paying careers) or willing permitting oneself to be treated like a bit of capital (which encapsulates most dead end minimum wage jobs which are increasingly becoming the norm of our economy). Most of the comments people make about the horrors of pornography really applies to a huge swath of the jobs of our modern economy.

My name is Ed and I am curious as to why some people find it arousing or enjoyable to make private sex tapes of themselves with their partners. I'm from a conservative religious tradition but I'm not here to condemn you. I just don't understand the appeal given my world view but I was hoping some people could explain to me what they find appealing about it. This is an earnest question so please don't use this as an opportunity to take out whatever frustrations with the religious establishment you may have on me. Thanks!"
Hassan, have you ever held a job, I only ask as your retort here sounds so Marxist in nature. Do you feel that everyone should start out with a high paying job in a cushy office with benefits, or do you feel that the American dream of working your way to the top is still valid. Every employee is capital, as well as the business owner, they are all in total a tool to provide for profit of the industry. The profit is shared by the percent of the input of each part of the machine. Naturally the copy boy would not receive as much a share as the head technician or the top salesman or especially as the founder of the business. By the way anyone can find honest work even in this economy. Most do not want a job they feel is below them and would rather set around and complain how the system is set up for the wealthy while in reality they hold themselves back through their own actions. The youth here have to realize that under the current leadership elected to run this country that their aspirations for a high paying job upon graduation is a pipe dream, socialism has no more room for the successful entrepreneur than it does for a God. The state allows for none rising above its authority, so put your degrees away and prepare to get your hands dirty or you can set back and live off the state until you break the state. ed

Jesus_lol
I would argue that there is no such thing as "healthy pornography." It is sick and degrading. Ted Bundy told a reporter who interviewed him that his obsession with pornography eventually led him to crave acts of violence. Fatal Addiction: Ted Bundy's Final Interview I'm not saying that all who watch pornography will become serial killers, but there is a real risk of losing your sanity and/or your soul. It's like a drug.
People say the same thing about video games, violent movies, books etc. If reading fantasy novels/watching movies where entire peoples and armies are killed in war, and countless people die violently hasnt turned me into a serial killer, then I doubt watching porn would turn me into a rapist. Some people are triggered by different things, but its just like epilepsy. Flashing lights never gave anyone epilepsy who didnt already have it latent.
This you know, how?
For some reason, I remember you as being married? which is what makes this post even more confusing. "do married couples hide bedroom things from their friends and family, and is that healthy?" Of course they keep it to themselves, and it is easy to do that. Also, its pretty much a given that many people have nude/suggestive pictures/videos of their BF/GF/Spouse saved somewhere on their phone or computer. I would say if you take a group of people who have been dating/married/sexually active for a little while and checked their phone/computer/etc, the people who had none of this content would be in the minority. Even moreso if you included chatlogs/texts etc as "erotic literature"

Do you feel that everyone should start out with a high paying job in a cushy office with benefits,
I've had several jobs and I have a job now. I've been a bagger and a cashier at Food Lion I've been a student employee in a library I've done NGO work in Bosnia I've worked for the Obama campaign and now I'm working at the unloading docks at a Kohls while I apply for careers. I don't mind my work. I enjoy it. Compared to Bosnia and OFA the work is fine. I don't mind it. But I have options. Just yesterday I was asked to sit on a city commission by a local government official. That's because I was born into a family that could afford to send me to a really good school. Most people who work in a job like the one I have do not have such options. They work hard and their reward for their hard work is that they will have steady part time work until it becomes inconvenient for Kohls to retain them at which point they will be thrown out like yesterday's garbage. Benefits? You must be joking. Nobody in retail gets substantive benefits. You are part time unless you are in a managerial position.
or do you feel that the American dream of working your way to the top is still valid.
It is valid for the very few. Yeah. For people like me who have a good education it is an option. Ed Normile
Hassan, and J-lol I still ask you noth " You know this, how ? You make all these assertations that "most" people create porn for their personal use, and Jlol opined that its a given that people have nude images saved ... etc. What type of people are you basing these observations on? Is this personal experience, or personal fantasy? Have you polled a section of the populace? By the way Hasan, German average salaries are just over 36,000 US dollars with a mandatory 40% tax witholding, sound good to you? And Sweden is a mess, the lowest average salaries highest cost of living and lowest youth employment in european countries, I would love to see your "actual data" to back up this fallacy of yours. Jlol I ask you the same question, maybe you can answer it, - You know this, How? I also have to ask how can you state people who do not engage in this are in the minority. This is immoral even for private use, it would be a scandal if seen by either a child or another such as a friend or family let alone the sin you would have committed by exposing another too this, the near occasion of sin for certain just creating it in my opinion. Of course a couple would refrain from sex in front of their child or family, but porn tapes and phone/computer media that would seem harder to control, come on get real my friend. Look Hassan and Jlol, I am catholic and I know morality and immorality. I have been married 27 years. I sincerely hope that the both of you can find a person that you love enough and one who loves you enough to be physically attracted enough to each other that you do not need external stimuli such as porno tapes or role playing or some other perversion of the God given gift of sexual unity to keep yourselves interested in each other sexually. That is what love is all about, not the hard body, rather the soft heart and the pure soul. Now I am sure that there are some who may do this perversion, you both have confirmed it for me by your positing it here and you seem so familiar with it I have to take your word for it, by the way thanks for that, thats the problem with the sin of gossip, its an evil that you need no proofs to spread that hint of scandal all you need to do is to say it and the damage is done. ed
