VERY PUBLIC APOLOGY to Doc Bomb -- I hadn't realized you were trying to give me page counts. I was too busy piling up books to toss at him. :paperbag: I have also been chastised by Byz for 'enjoying' the idea of pelting the Doc with Romance Novels. Something tells me one of these days he is going to be a very fine confessor.... I suppose it's only fair to offer to Doc that he can come over here and toss some at me.... I live near the houses on the top row of this mountain.... and we HAVE a village green where I live. So come on out, and bring some old books with you.... And all of you can come, too... we have picnic tables, and lots of good places we can read. :) Also happy to tell you I have completed The Killer Angels (355 pages) and Finding Sanctuary: Monastic Steps for Everyday Life by Abbot Christopher Jamison (192 pages). BOTH are excellent. The Killer Angels is a novelized retelling of the Battle of Gettysburg, and is so well done, with so much of the internal process of the characters. VERY highly recommended. Finding Sanctuary is practical and thoughtful look at integrating the Rule of St. Benedict and the insights of the Desert Fathers into ordinary life for lay persons. VERY well done, and very highly recommended. So... just finishing up the count now, and will post within next hour or so! Welcome to New Readers Christina Therese and Stella Matutina! In answer to these questions: Questions (sorry if these have already been asked and answered, I don't want to read through 23 pages): Should pages that are mostly pictures be counted, or not? Do prayer books count? Does the Lord of the Rings count as 1, 3, or 6 books? Byz makes the final decisions, but for me, I think you need to use your judgment on the pictures. Comic books they are saying no... but I have several books that the photos/artwork are integral parts of the books (Sr. Wendy Beckett's Pains of Glass: The Story of the Passion from King's College Chapel, Cambridge) comes to mind... and I think I will re-read that one now!!) Prayer books count. LOTR you can count as separate books... you decide... and pages are, well, pages!!!! I'm suggesting people just take the page count that shows on Amazon.... One person counted a compilation of Sherlock Holmes stories as separate 'books' arguing -- effectively -- that each one could be purchased separately. So, yes, follow your own leadings on this! On page 3, with full awareness that LOTR is actually one novel with three parts and six books, the decision was rendered that LOTR would count as 3 books (using the standard division of Fellowship, Towers, and Return). You are right on all scores. I merely miscopied the numbers when I put it on line. Excel spreadsheet has the number counts right. I will fix my records and it will be posted correctly next repost. There could be a strategy. People could be slamming thorough War & Peace and pretending they are just reading a few pages here and there.... But you would still have the fun of being in the lead for a little while, Byz!!!! And.... I seem to recall from a sewing thread that Cartermia was looking at going to a sewing camp. Hopefully they will keep her too busy to read....The other two are just scary. I think we should get ARFink to 'lose' Chrysophlax' library card... (not steal it, just... misplace it for a few weeks... until after September 21st (or whenever we are ending this....) Did you ever decide on a LAST DAY?
