DiscerningCatholic Posted November 11, 2013 Author Posted November 11, 2013 I have the same baptismal AND First Communion day as Sr. Joseph Andrew. Like...HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN?! My baptismal day is November 9th, feast of the dedication of St. John Lateran. My first Communion is May 8th. May 8th is the anniversary of St. Therese of Lisieux's (my patron saint) first Communion. It is also the feast of Our Lady, Patroness of the Dominican Order. God's probably doing some serious LOLing now that I found all of that out. rotfl
TheresaThoma Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 YAAAY Congrats!! (BTW I think you are crazy for not at least trying the cookies! :P )
DiscerningCatholic Posted November 12, 2013 Author Posted November 12, 2013 I didn't really eat much at the retreat! I was too excited! Plus, I didn't even see the cookies on any of the tables; I just saw that some of the girls had them!
Mary+Immaculate<3 Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Lol I love those AHA! moments we get when we're like "Wow, God really *did* know exactly what He was doing." And you know He totally is LOLing. We just have to laugh at ourselves and not take ourselves too seriously. God's can't take seriously those who take themselves seriously, that's what I say XD
DiscerningCatholic Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 This application...seriously... :ohno: :beg: :o
cmaD2006 Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 It'll be fine ... do the application one step at a time. They can look overwhelming but if you do it bit by bit all of a sudden, BAM it's done! :) Congrats!
Mary+Immaculate<3 Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Have you been able to get a psychological exam yet?
DiscerningCatholic Posted November 15, 2013 Author Posted November 15, 2013 No; I'm hoping to schedule eye, psych, and dentist appointments soon.
VeniJesuAmorMi Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 So this is the post where I tell you that I got application papers and am a candidate. I got application papers and am a candidate. (P.S. I didn't eat any of the cookies... :| I'm awkward like that.) I really like this picture. Thank you for sharing it! :) Prayers now as you start with the application stage.
Lil'Nun Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Ummm.... question please? What is required on an application? I know they need your baptismal and confirmation certificates, some references, and often a medical, dental and psychological workup. But what else please?
DiscerningCatholic Posted November 17, 2013 Author Posted November 17, 2013 Well, you got most of it right there. They also need a letter of recommendation from your pastor or confessor. There is also a HUGE number of questions that they ask you (Happiest family memories? Favorite pasttimes? etc.) as well as HS transcripts.
DiscerningCatholic Posted November 18, 2013 Author Posted November 18, 2013 Sr. Mary Grace and a friend of mine made a game of trying to name the candidates. Sr. Mary Grace wants me to be "Sr. Reginald Joseph, OP." :|
TheresaThoma Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Hehe! I like that name, it definitely would be different. How goes the application?

I know they need your baptismal and confirmation certificates, some references, and often a medical, dental and psychological workup. But what else please? Usually something like this: -certificates for baptism and confirmation -cumulative health record -comprehensive physical exam -eye exam -dental exam -psych evaluation -letters of reference (pastor/spiritual director, employer/professional associate, and friends/relatives) -personal history questionnaires -spiritual autobiography (mine had to be 8-10 pages) -high school and college transcripts -other professional licenses/certificates It varies slightly community-to-community, but I'm pretty sure that is a basic outline for contemplative-active communities. It will probably be a tad different for cloistered communities.

Katiebobatie94 Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 (edited) That's pretty much it except the DSMME don't ask for a spiritual autobiography (thank God). I had to do an autobiography (it had to be at least 2 pages) -- lets just say that mine was wayy more! lol Edited November 18, 2013 by Katiebobatie94
