Private Vows in The Laity/Spirituality

God bless you, Brother. :)

I admire the Franciscan way of life.

I kept my private vows very private and personal until my SD celebrated a Home Mass for me to renew life private vows.  For some years initially, the vows were renewed yearly.  I had about 20 or 25 at the Mass comprised of my family and very close friends, including two Carmelite nuns.  One has been my best pal, my very best pal, for over 40 years now.

I strive to live a very simple lifestyle and these days are not concerned about what I wear - that has pretty much settled into four outfits.  I follow my own rule of life, which my SD approved.   I do wish we were able to wear some form of religious habit as I think it is a witness that speaks very loudly of Jesus and His Gospel, His Church, without needing to say one word.  But The Good Lord knows what He is about and the why's and wherefore's of it all.............and He knows best! :)

Thank you very much, Brother Alberto, for sharing and may The Lord and His Grace continue to be with you in your journey.  Thank you too for the picture.

Lord you’ve touch my heart
“Come follow me,” you whispered
I rejoiced and my eyes smiled at you
I want to follow, and so
Lord, please find a way for me

You’ve surprised me
A door you opened
I entered in with amazement
Of peace and joy within
I looked around and found you waiting for me

What a precious moment to be true
To know and to follow you
I wish soon to be with you
And will love you forever

Along the road hindrance came
I was confused, my gaze upside down
The world or you my Lord, I sigh
I knock at your heart for guidance
With love and a gentle look
You whispered, “seek my Kingdom first”

I was enlightened and strengthened
And my spirits lifted me up
Courageously I made up my mind
Lord you give your heart and I’ll give mine
I will seek your Kingdom first
You and I, forever

Bishop Charles Gauci

http://cathnews.com/cathnews/33335-adelaide-gives-thanks-for-bishop-charles-gauci

I knew Bishop Gauci when he was a young parish priest in my then parish.   I always thought he was a particularly holy person and priest - always jovial and down to earth, eager to help, as well.   In my mind's eye, I can still see him out in the parish-house garden, tending his little garden plot.  Great choice, Pope Francis! - and  Deo Gratius. http://cathnews.com/cathnews/33335-adelaide-gives-thanks-for-bishop-charles-gauci

Today is the Optional Memorial

of

St Margaret Mary Alacoque  - Mystic

(Promoted devotion to The Sacred Heart)

St Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647 - 1690)

She joined the Visitation Sisters at Paray-le-Monial. She made rapid progress along the way of perfection and was given mystical visions as a result of which she worked hard to institute devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Church.

From the time she was a young child, Catherine of Siena (1347-1380) sought God ceaselessly in both contemplation and action. By the time she was twenty-one, she had experienced her mystical marriage to Christ, and she had thrown herself tirelessly into ministering to the poor and the sick. Throughout her active ministry, Catherine pursued eternal Truth through prayer, reading, and ecstatic experiences.

While in an ecstatic trance, Catherine dictated The Dialogue -- presented here in mildly modernized, edited form. In this intense and searching work, the holy saint of Siena offers up petitions to God, filling her conversation with instruction on discernment, true and false spiritual emotion, obedience, and truth, and revealing her famous image of Christ as the Bridge. Catherine's brilliant insights into the nature of the spiritual life and character of the Church will motivate contemporary Christians who seek to unite a life of prayer with a life of action.

Sisters, nuns, aspirants, postulants, novices:

What does it all mean?

Quote

https://aleteia.org/2016/07/13/sisters-nuns-aspirants-postulants-novices-what-does-it-all-mean/

"A recent Aleteia piece discussing why some religious women wear the habit and others do not prompted a question from a reader, who wondered “What’s the difference between a ‘sister’ and a ‘nun,’ and how are postulants different from novices?”

A word of warning: There are a million differentials between religious orders and communities, so this is a very basic and general overview. There will always be exceptions to something written here. Always. ...".......... read MORE on above link.
