dUSt Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 Well, it's been over 22 years. Traffic is pathetic. Internet message boards are closing everywhere. It's time. My plan is to archive the phorum. No threads will be lost. Everything will remain searchable. Phatmass.com will continue as a website, mainly as a news aggregator and search resource. The Phatmass community, aka, the Phamily, has been such a huge part of my life. We have to have a way to keep in touch. My first instinct is to use the Phatmass Facebook group. But, maybe that's not the best way? Let's decide on the best place to move. Here are some links to potential places for us to move to: Phatmass Facebook group Phatmass Subreddit Also, maybe Quora or Discord?
Luigi Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 I trust your intuitions and decisions. If your say it's time, then so be it. Thank you for all you've done for all of us.
Cherie Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 Got an email about the forums closing, and then came back to check. It’s been a while! Is there any way a Facebook group can be private? People are much more likely to engage in conversation if the group isn’t open to the public. For my part, I typically don’t interact in Facebook groups unless the group is private. Public groups lend themselves to all sorts of issues, whereas private ones tend to act similar to the way forums do. I’d definitely join a private Phatmass FB group, anyway! It would be nice to interact there with the people I remember from here. It’s been so long. In any case, thank you so much for all you’ve done here, Dust. Even though I haven’t been back here for a long time, it’s been a really great 22+ (?!?!?!? ?) years. ❤️
VeniteAdoremus Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 Thank you for all your hard work dUSt! Phatmass was very important to me for a while, I’m grateful for that time.

Era Might Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 Got your email, just came to pay my respects. Respect! If you're still in Dallas holler at me. I'm a Dallasite (Dallasinoan?) now. I work downtown. Things I like about Dallas: tacos, sunshine, breeze, parks, dart, downtown. Things I don't like about Dallas: rain, thunder, lightning, hail, tornadoes, tornadoes, tornadoes, mentally unstable people roaming around, snobs, tornadoes. Bye. ?
eustace-scrubb2 Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 Just got the email! I suggest creating a discord. Beyond that, I don't know.
Archaeology cat Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 @dUSt - thank you for the phorum. It has been a huge part of my life and my conversion and everything. Hey, even found my daughter's godmother on this place. (miss you, @misereremi!) And @MIKolbe you should definitely show up for a BBQ at dUSt's house. I honestly try not to be on social media much these days (helps my sanity), but will check in from time to time wherever it goes

Kateri89 Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 I got the email and decided to stop over. I joined in 2012 and was never much of a prominent poster but enjoyed it nonetheless. God bless!
CS937 Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 (edited) Though I'm sad to see this forum go, you're right, it is time. Places like Phatmass, CAF, etc. belong to a different era and like all good things in this life, they're transitory. This forum and CAF meant the world to me in high school (2012-2013) when I was converting to Catholicism. These places made me feel lonely and like I wasn't crazy for wanting to be Catholic. Everyone around me thought I was crazy and was making a mistake lol. I don't use FaceBook, so I'd love to see a subreddit for Phatmass Edited April 29, 2023 by CS937
cruciatacara Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 My friend Nunsense sends her regards and wishes well to those who continue Phatmass in another venue. She told me she spent a lot of time on Vocation Station back in theday. For myself, I haven't been here as long but have enjoyed some of the conversations. Lately the place has become a little like an outpatients' ward in a psych hospital but that has also made it kind of interesting. I probably won't be following anywhere as I don't spend a lot of time online and don't have a FB account on purpose. Pretty amazing work @dUSt to have carried it on for so long. A lot of forums are shutting down these days so it is probably about time for this place too. So long, and thanks for all the fish.

I always loved her posts/appreciated her insights. If I'm not mistaken, I think she discerned with the Carmelites and the Hermits of Bethlehem, right? I heard of the latter group because of her comments on here
