Dreamweaver Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I know of quite a number of Christian metal bands, but does anyone know of any Catholic metal bands? I'd be even happier if you could provide a website or sound clips of songs. How about secular bands with Catholic musicians? I read that Hansi Kursch (singer for a German band Blind Guardian) is a lapsed Catholic.
maxk Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Seven Sorrows I don't know if you've already heard of them, but they rawk! Listen to their music on the website.
luciana Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 they sound awesome. I want to give their CD to a kid I know who's into hard rock. I ordered one from them, but they haven't sent it yet.
DemonSlayer Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 (edited) I'm not sure what sort of metal you like, but are heaps of prog metal and power metal bands in Brazil. The best ones are Eterna, Uniao and Apocalipse Prophecy. Eterna's website has a sample clip from each of their albums (in the Discografia or Downloads page). Uniao's website has MP3's and some videos I haven't seen (in the Extras page). "Patmos" "Scream on the Cross" sample clip "Unknown World" Solo drumming Apocalipse Prophecy has an MP3 in a Brazilian rock site, "Filhos de Deus". Oraculo has 30 sec clips on their website (in the Downloads section). There is also a Christian gothic metal band from Poland whose members are all Catholics, Illuminandi, they have MP3's and videos on their website, download the the first listed mirror files (the ones from mp3.wp.pl/p/strefa/sciagnij) for the MP3's (in the Files page) and the "alt" files for the videos (in the Vid's page). Dreamweaver Posted November 11, 2004 Author Posted November 11, 2004 Ah, I love you DemonSlayer! (in a platonic, friendship way ) I love power and prog metal, and I haven't heard of any of those bands! When I have more time, I will definately check out those bands, along with Seven Sorrows!
Paladin D Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 Demon Hunter is a Christian metal band, though they aren't specifically Catholic. http://www.demonhunter.net/ Check out their pretty neat music video http://www.demonhunter.net/notready.php
Oik Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 (edited) Illuminandi is awesome! They are definately Catholic. The singer is a nice guy. Edited November 11, 2004 by Oik
DemonSlayer Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Yeah, but I think that the most of members are Catholic just because they're from Poland, and they don't consider themselves a Catholic band. Why did you say that the singer's a nice guy, did you e-mail him or something?
SevenSorrows Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Dreamweaver: Our only "metal/hardcore" song is Vengeance. I was in a Christian band called Disarm, I sang, so we had Catholic lyrics, like anti-contraception, pro-life, anti-UN, etc. You can also download those from the website. www.sevensorrows.com
SevenSorrows Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004
they sound awesome. I want to give their CD to a kid I know who's into hard rock. We have emailed your email from paypal a bunch, but you never wrote back. So we NEED your home addy. email it to mike@sevensorrows.com and we will send it out asap!!!
Oik Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 I e-mailed the singer and he said that all the members are Catholic. I have read their lyircs and they are all from the bible or are christian. One review a read about them labeled them a "Roman Catholic Metal Band." Their name is supposedly Latin. I deduce that they are catholic. As far as labels are concerned, your a Catholic band if you live your life according to the Church and are in a band with Christian lyrics. Being a Catholic band doesn't just mean singing about the teachings of the Church (although that is my favorite!). So that is what I mean when I say they are a Catholic band.
Oik Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Also, the rock band delirious? doesn't diffreniate (sp) between Christian and secular music, it's all music to them. They said that is how it is in the UK. This idea of saying so ans so rock group is a Christian rock group is a new thing that started here in the US. Really, only liturgical music was divided into sacred and secular, but even then, the styles were the same. Obviously, liturgical music still holds a standard to what is okay to play at Mass and what is not. Where as in rock music, there is no such division.

I lost some mail on it when I got rid of my bloated new netscape browser and couldn't get messages due to a lot of junk mail (w/ the old un-updated browser I had junk controls) Now I can use it again, though I have mozilla (Mozilla is a great browser )because netscape finally increased the size of the inbox, but still no controls.!!! Can't wait to get it! Edited November 13, 2004 by luciana
DemonSlayer Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 There are also bands with all-Christian members that want to seperate themselves from the Christian music scene as much as possible, but still have several references to Christianity/God in some of their songs, such as Chevelle.
KnightoftheImmaculate1 Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 Since everyone seems to be confused in the "Christian" metal scene, I think we need to rep S.S. some more so they can get their stuff heard. We need to get off the scream all the time tip and tone it down a little. Seven Sorrows is doing that pretty well. I have heard them live and Dan (the lead singer/guitarist) plays at our youth group every so often. They really need all the support they can get, cause once they've been heard, there is no stopping the Catholic revolution. Deus est veritas
DemonSlayer Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 What do you mean confused? There are tons of great christian metal bands.
Dreamweaver Posted November 14, 2004 Author Posted November 14, 2004
Since everyone seems to be confused in the "Christian" metal scene, I think we need to rep S.S. some more so they can get their stuff heard. There's a huge variety of different types of metal out there, from "screamo" to classical/operatic power metal. Check out this Metal Comparision Chart for many types of Christian metal and equivalent secular bands. For those in a band, there's a guy trying to compile a bunch of pro-life songs by metal bands. Its called Shattered Lives, formerly known as Metal For Life. Enjoy Shattered Lives
DemonSlayer Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 (edited) I listened to/know of three metal pro-life songs. Longevity by Eterna Proverbs by Crutch (ex Aletheian) - already on the website Burden in your Hands by Underoath As well as Sanctity of Life by Disarm Edited November 15, 2004 by DemonSlayer
KnightoftheImmaculate1 Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Hey thanks, I did not know there was metal without screaming all the time. Sorry for my wording, I was not in a very good mood when I was on the phorum that day. I will try to check out your referrals.
