Dreamweaver Posted November 15, 2004 Author Posted November 15, 2004 Its ok Knight! I'm sure you'll find a lot of bands that you'd like in the Melodic metal section. I have a friend who knows a ton of Christian progressive metal bands, I'll see if I can get some reccomendations out of him. But oh carp, I need to study for a speech test now!
Guest THE dudeman... Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 aw dude(im a new one)!!! could somebody please give me a list of cath metal bands? ive been in search for a long time....
DemonSlayer Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Have you looked at my first two posts in this topic? There are other catholic rock/metal mp3's at Planet White. Apart from Eterna, Illuminandi, Apocalipse Prophecy, Uniao and Oraculo. Cavaleiros Consagrados and Banda Calice Sagrado aren't too bad, you can get their mp3's from Planet White, there's also Fides, but the link to their mp3 doesn't work. The other ones I didn't really like at all and some of them aren't metal.

I love Dream Theater, as well as classic rock, prog rock, and that kind of stuff. Earlier in this thread, I posted a link to a comparision chart between Christian and secular metal bands, listed by genre and similar artists. Check it out, you'll probably discover lots more bands. I've been having a hard time finding specifically Catholic bands though....
DemonSlayer Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004
thank you. yes i am a fan of metal...as i said before, i don't know any cath metal music, but a few christian, including POD, switchfoot, 12 stones....listen to a little of of "secular music when the words aren't bad, like Billy Talent, Dream Theater, etc...also listen to jazz, blues, reggae, classic rock, some classical, alternative, progressive rock...i have a pretty large choice of music styles.... thanks for the list Demonslayer
On that page, there are 2 mp3's from a Catholic blues bands called "Banda de Bluz", not sure if the links work though.
Oik Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 Hey, I just got a e-mail! For some bands check out www.serydis.com/sheriffmusica/. They are a Spanish Catholic rock band. They also have lots of links up for other Catholic heavy metal and 2 Catholic punk bands.
DemonSlayer Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 I already know most of the artists on the link, and a lot of them (the metal ones) I've mentioned in this topic, but that band is definitely very odd musically, not quite sure about them; and they call themselves metal, but most of it isn't.
dtofdh Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 Hello to all, I am a newbie on this board, and I am very pleased. I have been praying for an active Catholic site for years, and now here it is. Let me introduce myself. My name is Doug I have been involved with the Christian Hardcore Metal scene for many years. Although my bandmates were not all Catholic, I am very much so. The name of my first band was Vengeance, then later Vengeance Rising. We were a hardcore thrash metal band similar sounding to Slayer. We recorded several albums, and we were listed on one of the links mentioned on this thread. After Vengeance we started a band named Die Happy, which was more metal than thrash. After a few albums we disbanded as well. We recently heard that Seven Sorrows played at our parish, but it was after the fact, and we missed them. My Catholic faith was always a very important influence in our bands direction, and I hope to see many other bands like it. Our band recently had a reunion concert under the name Once Dead and we are releasing a dvd soon. The producer of the concert set up a website (www.roxxproductions.com). The website has a message board which for the most part, whose members have largely been (non Catholic) but committed Christians. This has been a wonderful opportunity for me to minister to them from a Catholic perspective. I have been able correct a lot of mis-conceptions which some of the forum members have had, in a very kind and loving way. It has been my goal to represent the Catholic faith to them in a way that is considerate, caring and respectful. Many of my non Catholic friends are simply ignorant of what the Catholic church teaches and professes. I could use your prayers in this ministry. I encourage anyone to check the website out if you are interested in Christian Metal Bands. Please remember to always represent the Church, in a loving, respectful way, so as to not chase anyone away from the fullness of our faith. Thank you, and God Bless. DougT
DemonSlayer Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 Great to hear from you, Doug. I have heard a lot about Vengeance (and how the band became a satanic metal band after most of the members left), because you guys were were huge in the Christian metal scene, although I haven't heard any of your songs. Are you looking to encourage Catholic metal bands to start up in the US?
dtofdh Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 Yes that is the same Vengeance. Our singer Roger Martinez was a Pastor who was more like a Protestant apologist. Our lyrics were like mini bible studies in each song. After our second album, the band members left Roger on his own because of some of his issues. Eventually he became so incredibly bitter that he began to blame God for all of his down falls, and turned to satanism. We kept on playing in our second band Die Happy. We recently were asked by a promoter to reunite for a show and dvd. I thought that it would be fun to see all of my old band mates (less Roger Martinez) and let my kids see what type of music I used to play. It turned out that, the Hardcore music scene is alive and well, and ministry bands are still very much needed. I would love to see a Catholic ministry band rise up and be a role model for the rest. I would highly encourage anyone bands out there to keep on playing. 20 years removed from my sphere of influence I am now seeing the fruits of my labors and it is very rewarding. There are many bands out there who have Catholic members in them ie: Creed etc.. who are Catholics in a band, but there aren't very many ministry bands. I think this is because as Catholics we haven't set up our own counter culture to live in. We are integrated into the world and we don't go out and preach from a soap box, and then retreat to our Christian click. We are invloved in our communities and involved with our families in various different ways. For example my children all play soccer. All of the board members are Catholic, we all are invlolved by donating our time and efforts to a program that benefits the entire community, and not just our church's community. It could easily be a Catholic league, but it is far better to be role models to non Christian families and as a coach you can be a role model for a child. But that is a whole new topic. DougT
DemonSlayer Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Creed had Catholic members, which one/s? I also know that Helloween's guitarist is also Catholic.
dtofdh Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 I believe all are Catholic, to what degree I don't know. I know that since they booted the singer they started a new band called Altar Bridge, and from the demo I heard, they sound even better to me. A little bit heavier. DougT
DemonSlayer Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 I'm pretty sure Scott Stapp is not Catholic for one, and I'd be surprised if he was, in fact he kinda criticised the Catholic Church in this interview I read.
Socrates Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Scott Stapp was never Catholic. He grew up in a hardcore fundamentalist protestant family, rebelled as a teenager, then claimed he returned to worshiping God, though mostly denouncing organized Christianity. Sounds like basically a lost soul. (And I think musically, Creed sucked - got sick of the radio playing them all the time.)
Guest guidothegreat Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Check out the band Extol. They are one of the heaviest Christ-metal bands. Not sure if they are Catholic, but still Christian. They are a Swedish band, and the only website I have is like 4 years old.
Dreamweaver Posted December 4, 2004 Author Posted December 4, 2004
Check out the band Extol. They are one of the heaviest Christ-metal bands. Not sure if they are Catholic, but still Christian. They are a Swedish band, and the only website I have is like 4 years old.
Have you heard of Vaakevandring? They're heavy too, and hail from Norway. I can't find their webpage, but here'sa cool interview with the guys.
DemonSlayer Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 Extol is not Catholic, in fact in one of their early songs, they criticised "religious christianity", so they might be anti-Catholic, still good music though.
