My mom's reading another Dan Brown book. I think it's Angels and Demons. I wish she'd stop reading that carp. She already read The DaVinci Code as though it were a history text.

Angels and Demons is the "prequel" to Da Vinci Code.

I read them both and found them entertaining.

(before you all yell at me, it's fiction and I was well aware of that).

I did happen to hear a talk by one of the authors of, "The Da Vinci Hoax" and I DO realize that, in the hands of someone who may be UNeducated in the fact that it's FICTION, could really be influenced in an evil way...

Opus Dei is a conservative Catholic organization. I think we've had a couple of threads about them, so you might try a search.

Waht infuriates me about this book is that since the Vatican spoke against it, my sisters run out, buy the book and read it.

Yet, they are generally uneducated in church teachings and wouldn't consider doing any 'constructive' reading to gain any of that knowledge either. Of course, they see themselves as 'experts' since they where born Catholic and feel justified to criticise the Faith and the Papacy on just about any issue that crosses their whims.

I'm most likely an exception to the rule...BUT...

The book actually STRENGTHENED my love for the Church...After reading the book, I did some research about many of its claims...And, as I'm sure you're aware - they were all FALSE!!!

Once again, the Bride of Christ...well, the gates of hell will never prevail against her...

Hollaback.

Me too. I have only read the Da Vinci Code, but I found it to be well-written and hard to put down. I did laugh at some of the things they said about the Church and stuff. I took it as fiction. I do think that it is sad though that there are so many people who look at it as a history.
