Laudate_Dominum Posted August 22, 2005 Author Posted August 22, 2005 Now that this thread has confirmed my suspicions regarding the current status of my poetry.. I must inform you all that my ability to use the force has diminished. I will be deleting this thread soon..

cmotherofpirl Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 (edited)
I wrote it yesterday and wanted to get interpretations because I feel like my poetry is becoming too obscure.. Most of the themes mentioned are there, but none of them are the real meaning of the poem. It is supposed to be about the experience of love (romantic love from man to woman) in the grace of Christ. Well, the initial call to love anyway. Those other things are analogies I suppose. The death thing relates to "finding oneself" in a "sincere gift of self" or a kind of kenosis, among other things. Hope for heaven is plain enough. The Paschal Mystery plays in because it is the pattern in many ways. It's not the greatest poem in the world, it's just recent and short and I wanted to see if my current style actually communicates what I intend. Ack! It's fine.. I don't want to be too scrupulous. At least the main themes seem to be conveyed well enough. Thanks peeps.
I really like it. It thought it could be about romantic love but I figured you would laugh at that interpretation. Can I copy it? Edited August 22, 2005 by cmotherofpirl
FlyLikeABird Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 Poetry is meant to be obscure sometimes. I write a fair deal when I feel I need to write and most of it I feel is gibberish and not really worth publishing but I still write it!
Noel's angel Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 its good to get you're feelings out, even if they don't make any sense to tohers, or even you

Old_Joe Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 at first I wasn't sure. but at the end I'm like this is definitely about the Mass.
Anastasia13 Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 (edited) It does seem like it could be about love, some kind and what comes out of it. Honestly, because of all the theology stuff that I read from you and my own background and way of thinking and just talking with my mom which made such more on my mind and the mention of bread and wine and honestly also the salt water because of what makes us the salt of the earth and various references to water, I was thing of more a relationship with God, but romantic love seems to fit nicely. I suppose whether it is with God or others, we would also find ourselves changed through loving someone other than ourselves. The imagery is so much about falling into something wonderful. You're best ro not, that poem is beautiful in wording and intent. I really like it a lot. Edited August 23, 2005 by Light and Truth
HomeTeamFamily Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 to me it looks like the poem is about 17 lines long
Luthien Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 I enjoyed it. I can see how it could be interpreted as being about the Eucharist. Thats actually how I read it initially. I've always held the belief that receiving the Eucharist is like being intimate with God. Not in a sexual way, but in a spiritual type intimacy that is also a componant of the love between a man and a woman. So though I think you(L_D) started out as it being about betrothed love between a man and a woman, you stumbled upon how similar the human experience of receiveing the Eucharist is to human love. God made the Eucharist so that we may touch Him in a human way, that we may receive Him physically. Thats why I love the Eucharist, and it brings me joy that love between a man and a woman is so beautiful that it can be compared to Eucharist, and vice versa. Lovely poem, L_D.
