I've always held the belief that receiving the Eucharist is like being intimate with God. Not in a sexual way, but in a spiritual type intimacy that is also a componant of the love between a man and a woman. So though I think you(L_D) started out as it being about betrothed love between a man and a woman, you stumbled upon how similar the human experience of receiveing the Eucharist is to human love. God made the Eucharist so that we may touch Him in a human way, that we may receive Him physically.

Thats why I love the Eucharist, and it brings me joy that love between a man and a woman is so beautiful that it can be compared to Eucharist, and vice versa.
