Sojourner Posted September 6, 2005 Author Posted September 6, 2005 Yeah, I know what you mean. It's so much fun to be a kid and to spend your whole summer running around the neighborhood playing crazy games with your friends. My parents moved out of the city I was born in when I was 11 (afraid of the evil influences of public school) and we got a place out in the middle of nowhere, so most of my sibs don't have the same childhood experiences that I did of playing with the neighborhood kids. The other day, I was washing dishes in my kitchen, and in my neighbor's yard two doors down I saw her son and one of his friends playing Jedi's, and I decided I really want my kids to grow up in a neighborhood with other kids. I loved that experience so much.

homeschoolmom Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005
Smurfs were probably my all-time favorite, though. Mom was wishy-washy about it, because she didn't like the fact there was a wizard in it (Gargamel).
Whenever I see the ice cream flavor "Blue Moon" I think of a smurf with his drawers down... Ah, college. Now back on topic!!! HSdad had been to one of those Readers of First Things meetings. In fact, I think he was organizing them for awhile... Definately his cup o' tea.
Sojourner Posted September 7, 2005 Author Posted September 7, 2005 Maybe I should move to MInnesota after all ... I could put up with colder weather for a good ROFTERS group ...

Sojourner Posted September 7, 2005 Author Posted September 7, 2005 I'll give it a little thought. I can't move for a few months, though ... I am pretty tied in to a lease, and I'm sure my roommate would kill me if I left her with all the rent/utilities on her own.

Jaime Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 They have one at the Mall of America. Love their wings
Sojourner Posted September 8, 2005 Author Posted September 8, 2005 I've never been a big wings fan. I mean, I like them and all, but I'm not a wings connosieur. It just seems like a lot of work for a tiny bit of payoff.
Jaime Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Apparently I need more coffee. I thought the Hooters/hoosiers joke would have made sense. Sometimes I think I'm funny... What the heck is a hoosier anyway?
homeschoolmom Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Wow... we're way off topic... Unless your Aug/Sept. issue of First Things has an interdenominational recipe for wings.

Jaime Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Toby Keith is apparently a Hoosier. He has a song called "Hoosier Daddy". But I'm not a big fan of Toby. I am a fan of living in Minnesota. I highly recommend it to all. Oh and I'm a fan of wings.
Sojourner Posted September 8, 2005 Author Posted September 8, 2005 No one really knows the etymology of the word "hoosier" for certain. There are various speculations, but no definitive word histories. At the moment, it means, "One who is a resident (native?) of the state of Indiana." I think it really should be "native" ... I know lots of people who live here who aren't Hoosiers, per se. I really think you just know a Hoosier when you see one. It's hard to define. And hsmom, there were no interdenominational recipes for wings in First Things this issue. I did catch the Hooters/Hoosiers thing ... I could never work there. The shorts look like they'd ride up.
homeschoolmom Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Yes, Soj... move here... HSdad said you can have the basement... and you can join his ROFT group...
