This may be a silly question, but is there anything we can do to help them move on? Is there any prayer, or Saint to pray to?

I've been haunted before - it's not a pleasant experience.

you could try to figure out why its not ready to move on and then do what you can to help it. otherwise i dont think there is any thing to do.

That's kind of sad actually :sadder:

I remember a group of us traveled to the UK for work, and we stayed in this old hotel that, we found out later, used to be a hospital for disturbed children. One day this guy in our group told us that he heard a little girl crying at night in his hotel room. I really don't like to think about the story - but let's just say that I really believe the place was haunted.

We checked into a different hotel the next day.

I tend to think that ghosts are demonic experiences that testify to some great evil, or victory which Satan has managed. Perhaps these specters may actually be that of the person. However, this wouldn't seem like a good thing in terms of the state of that person's soul....

The one thing that makes me think this is that several times ghosts have been expelled from houses using excorcism and holy water, similar to demonic excorcism.

I've heard that if you've experienced a spirit or a ghost, you should pray for the reposal of their soul. Sometimes God may let them wander the world for certain reasons.
wow...I don't believe a word.

it's not surprising that so many soldiers report the same experience.  the power of suggestion is a powerful thing.  If one person talks about it, then that idea is in their head and so if they are creeped out they will naturally jump to the conclusion that they have seen the same "ghost".

At first I thought this was CBN, not CBS...

you don't believe that there are demonic powers present in the world??? your comment smacks of classical skepticism.

I don't believe in ghosts. Never seen one, don't see the point to having them. I believe in lots of things I've never seen, but those things have a point. I think that demonic power more often manifests itself in temptation, rather than visions of dead people. Quite frankly, if I saw a dead person I'd start praying so I think that would defeat any purpose a demon might have had for manifesting itself thusly.

Ghosts don't exist, in the sense of souls being trapped in the physical world. However, demons can manifest themselves in any form. Read Peter Kreeft's book "Angels (and demons) What Do We Really Know About Them?" (Ignatius Press). He has a Ph.D in philosophy at Boston college (he's a professor there), and he's written several Catholic related books. The book draws on the Bible, traditional Church teaching, and St. Thomas Aquinas.

It's a very interesting read, and really explains things in a philosophical way.

Awesome.

If ghosts did exist, the Church would have to create a new office, Ghostbusters.

Great article. Does anyone know of any articles like these that deal with the phenomenon of near death experiences but that are written from a Catholic point of view? I tried looking once but essentially came up empty. Thanks.

for all you skeptics.......be skeptical. Fine, whatever toots your flute. But dont ever make people look like liars when you dont know. Oh, maybe i should ask you...........do you know? I think this article was a very good article and i dont think people would just make things up like that. They are no different than you skeptics. You really think they would be that stupid? This event, according to the reporter, has changed people into believers for a reason. And i think the whole revelation coincidence was powerful and we shouldnt just look past it. Maybe we should re-evaluate our postiion with christ.........if needed.

I like that you said that. I've seen a couple of times in this fourm where someone comes in and just trashes another person's comments. It's Ok to disagree, but I would hope that people would be respectful about it. We're supposed to be walking examples of Jesus, after all :)

I didn't make anyone look like a liar. I attempted to categorize the notion that ghosts exist as silly. Whether someone believes in them or not is dependent on their level of silliness.

There is no hitchhiker.

Ok.........Im trying to respect your opinion..........allthough i have seen things (maybe you havent) that suggest otherwise..........but may only be a figment of the imagination. But i have no official stance(personally).
