I need sleep!

I need sleep and it's not happening the natural way!!! so I am going to walk to the 24-hour CVS and get some sleeping pills. I usually hate pills and avoid taking them for anything (which is why I'm so crazy) but I have been up for 4 days straight (fainting doesn't count) and while I'm tired I can't get to sleep.

anyone have a favorite sleep drug?

Benadryl!

(Diphenhydramine -- the generic works just as well.)

It's safe, very effective, non-addicting...

...and also clears up your allergies if you happen to be having any. :topsy:

Instead of going through all the nausea that clinical medication often attributes to, why not set yourself down for a nice turkey dinner?

All that Tryptophan (I hope that's how it is spelled) will put you right to sleep. And, Thanksgiving food is good anytime of the year.

My sleep drug tends to be prescription only.... and the ones I'm on now aren't exactly helping.

mmm.....non-addictive benadryl... sounds good to me. I actually tried the L-Triptophan thing today by having a turkey sandwich for dinner. But I think you have to eat lots and lots of turkey to get the full effect. This will be my 2nd time trying to get sleeping pills today... the first time I tried this morning, and I passed out in the street (like right in the middle) and a guy almost ran me over. Yay for not dying! After I came to, I thanked the man for not killing me and walked back to campus. Then a few hours later I realized... hey, I didn't get the sleeping pills!!! So now I need to get them, but I don't want to walk all the way to the 24 hour CVS (which is 2 miles away) by myself in the middle of the night on over 4 days of no sleep. so i'm thinking about maybe if I just wait until the morning I can go to the health center and ask for some but I'm not sure if they'd give it to me.

I Need Sleep is the name of a band... they have a song called "Dance Like and Idiot"
I enjoy it, but sleep is good... and I need some, so I am getting off of here soon so I can wake up and proof-read my paper and insert textual evidence and make it much better. :)

AAAAAAAAACK!

Yep, I think you need some sleep. :ohno: But indeed, maybe best wait to go out until daylight. Any nearby allergy-stricken aquaintance who can hook you up?

I'm glad the nice man didn't run you over! Edited by philothea

Four days without sleep? Wow. I'm going to have to stop complaining about my getting about 4 hours two nights a week when the rest of the time I have all the time in the world to sleep. I usually try reading a book until I fall asleep, though.

What's the name of that sleep hormone that they sell in pill form? Melatonin? It's safe and natural, but you should make sure that it won't interact with any other medications you may be taking. I know it put me out on a plane trip for about 2 hours when I wasn't at all tired. 4 days is a long time... and you just can't sleep at all? Have you seen/talked to a doctor about this?

I love melatonin!!! I used to take that all the time, but then it got to the point where I needed 6 of them to work, so now I'm just laying off the melatonin.

Usually my sleep schedule's not so bad but the nightmares I get are really scary. So the way I deal with the nightmares is by not sleeping. so I'm tired and I've been up for over 4 days and I know I need to sleep but I don't want to sleep because I'm too afraid.... I thought about going to the doctor for it... The man who almost hit me today wanted to take me to the emergency room but as soon as he said that I started running...

Are you being serious, or just a weird sort of creepy-funny?

can't say I'm too fond of hospitals, but to actually sprint away from someone offering to help you, after you admitted to collapsing in the middle of an intersection, sounds a bit...off

Last time I was taken to the ER, it was just a waste of money. I didn't have much of a choice, though. I basically had to commit myself for thinking crazy things.

sure, but at what point do you think that you might need one...would you even know it?

it can be hard to take a step back & objectively analyze ourselves when we come down with a case of the crazies....

It helps if you've got a friend that can smack you upside the head & tell you, "You've gone nutters! Take your loonie pills, you wacko!" It helps even more if other people can see this friend....

heh

I think it would be good to make an appointment at least to see a doctor. I know it doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun, but that is why we have doctors, so that they can help us! Please at least speak to a doctor or something about it. It in not healthy at all for you to continue on without sleep! :ohno:
