I think I'm going to skip church today
I think that the problem is that 1 hour out of 1 day will not impact your work or anything.  Rather, time spent on Phatmass could be better served in church for one hour or so.  If you establish criteria by which you can miss church, you will suddenly find yourself meeting those criteria more often.  :o
Also, keep in mind that the work of this life is fleeting and won't mean anything once you're dead.  Your salvation is infinitely more important than school.
Rationalizations=excuses, which you have made in abundance while using up precious church time on PM. :(

I was also at the time postdromal and sleep deprived. Sitting around in my pajamas is a lot easier than getting out the door then worrying about getting out on time to go to work where I was told about showing up late, "last verbal," meaning next time I would have my fourth write-up. It's not the time; it's the timing.

With regards to what you said about criteria, my criteria also includes degree and frequency. I missed the last two Sundays. It would take a lot for me to not go this Sunday. Last Sunday I went for more of a day of rest. This Sunday I'll need a day to get ready for a busy week. Also, I should have more of my homework that is due to be turned in done today and I owe Cam a prayer at church. If I go to bed early enough tonigh, I can go to two different services and have options for which one. That would be cool.

skipping sunday obligations is a mortal sin -- unless, for a serious reason (aka you are sick, and not with a cold or a runny nose, or someone else is sick of whom you are caring for....)

Light - go to Church because you want to be there, whether that is to get in the prayer for Cam, or to talk to Jesus, or to hear the Word, or whatever

going to church because you fear the consequences of not going is not the ideal reason for attendance, although it is an acceptable reason

going to church when you don't really want to go is, however, one way of showing what is most important in your life

All the times I have ever missed Mass, I end up having the worst week of my life. Missing church makes you a prime target for the devil's attack. Going to church, hearing the word of God and receiving Holy Communion scares the devil away.

Well, the way I look at it is this: BESIDES the fact that to purposely miss Mass on Sunday IS a mortal sin (aka a sin of our own actions that cuts us off from the life of God), there is also the fact that when one goes to Mass with a good will (not because they were dragged there lol) and a lot of love, then one gets an awful lot of graces from going there.
Metaphorically, it makes much more sense to eat a meal before they work hard then to not nourish themselves and risk becoming weaker and not being able to get the job done in the end.
The body and the soul are closely connected. When the soul is without grace (the nourishment) it looses it's strength. When our soul is weak, our physical body (namely our mind) ceases to work properly.
I think that if you would like to do well in your classes, you would do well to attend Mass for one hour and receive the grace your soul needs, than to skip it and let your soul go hungry.
Sides, Christ spent 33 years on earth, left on earth His True Presence, suffered an excruciating and violent death - all for you and I. The least we can do is give Him an hour out of our day.

I hope that made some sense...

BTW, substitute “Church” for “Mass” if you are Protestant.

yea,
it's very bad and unhealthy to miss mass on Sunday. There should be no excuse that can justify missing mass on sundays, unless the person is incapable of going because of a physical injury or other tragic things that may befall one. so if you are ABLE to make it to mass [not if u want to cuz we have no say in this], then do it by all means. If u have a lotta work to do, try to do it before sunday or leave it after service. God will definitely help you with your work if you find time for Him, He's done so mumerous times for me.

EXACLTY!!! I've had horrible weeks the few times I missed mass too. God just whips me real hard wenever I do so, and I always know dat's why He's whipping. So I say sorry and try not to miss mass next time.

So, are you going to church? It has been a week. Go to church.

Thanks.

Our faith is a mixture of light and darkness. We look to the holy people of history to give us some light on the quest for God. Saint John of the Cross, who reformed the Carmelites and was imprisoned for his pains, distrusted whatever removed the soul from the obscure faith where the understanding must be left behind in order to go to God by love. One of his greatest Carmelite followers, Thérèse of Lisieux, lived her religious life in darkness. Her biographer described her state in these words: The whole area of religion seemed remote and unreal to her, not arousing the least response, either friendly or antagonistic, in her mind and heart. It was as though religion had become simply something remembered, grey, cold and unimportant.

St Paul wrote about our inability to pray (Romans 8,26): The Spirit helps us in our weakness; when we do not know how to pray as we ought, that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. The dialogue with God continues even when our mind and heart are weary.

I'm Protestant. Mortal sin is a little different to me.

The last time I thought I had a slight cold or something, a few days later I was ready to cry if the doctor didn't give me cough medicine. I got an antibiotic and cough medicine with codein. It was glorious. I could sleep again that night. Colds for me tend to involve more than a little mucus and generally have a certain amount of pain perhaps in my throat and hopefully not for four days with coughing making it hard to sleep and then a valid concern about grossing people out when I blow my nose. Colds for me as far as I am concerned can well be valid excuses for staying home.

A runny nose when by itself I'll grant is a pathetic excuse.

The sabbath is to be a day of rest as well as worship.

May my Christianity never be simply in the spirit of fearing hell.

When I least want to go is when I most need to. It's like an attitude/heart thing. (And no, that wasn't last week.)
So, are you going to church?  It has been a week.  Go to church.

I can't for at least 8 hours. Now, since I'm tired and likely not to get up at 6:30, do I want to go the Calvary Chapel service or the Christian and Mission Alliance church service...
