"Each year it gets worse - becomes more exaggerated, more expensive, more emotionally traumatic," he added. "We are withdrawing from the battle and allowing the parents full responsibility. (Kellenberg) is willing to sponsor a prom, but not an orgy."
Man, my prom was TAME. (or lame? )
tojo Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 I didn't go to prom..... I was a fundie then......
toledo_jesus Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 sweet. way to go. I like how they take it from a vanity perspective. you never hear about that!
Antonius Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Wow. You know, I think he's got a point there. Remembering my Catholic High School dances and proms, I think that they have become pagan events. People don't dance (they perform lewd acts most of the time...) and they do really get expensive. Besides, the music is bad. The DJs I knew only played rap music and not actual dance music, and you can't dance to rap music... you can only rub up against someone, which is pretty immoral IMHO.
Thumper Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Apologies to Sojourner! I didn't see your post before adding another link to the same stories above.

Theoketos Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Yeah, My family was poor in Highschool, while I had a huge scholar ship to a nice school, so prom and homecoming were really really really stressful.

I went with an old family friend to his prom, and it was ... a growing experience. And it was a stressful experience because of finances and disagreements over dresses and stupid dyed shoes .... prom was really just not fun.
scardella Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Wow! That sort of thing seems crazy. At my senior prom, the school sponsored an after-prom party (sans alcohol and drugs) that lasted until about 7AM. All in all, the night didn't cost more than $300-400. Anything more than $400 would've been outrageous for a high schooler, in my opinion. Then again, my friends and I didn't worry about booze, we got a limo-bus together, and didn't go to an outrageously expensive restaurant. It was more about hanging out and dancing. (They actually had some swing and slow songs and some bust-a-move songs.) I'm sure, though, that unsavory things happened w/ other people there.

I actually had a really great time AT prom. But preparing for prom was difficult. Finances being one reason. Fighting with friends is another. If you ever want to see high school girls fight, it will be during prom time. Tickets to my prom were almost $400 a pair (and this was over 7 years ago), my dress was $150, my part of the limo was almost $200, plus you need to buy shoes, get your hair and nails done, pay for whatever activity you are doing after prom, etc. It was alot of money! I think they can really reduce the prices of these things if they wanted to. They don't need to be held in really fancy places for one thing.

BTW I net less than 400 dollars a week right now...

Thy Geekdom Come Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 I never went to prom, I was gonna be a priest. : I did go to homecoming, though, and boy was that stupid. It's amazingly easy to slip into sin.

I really did not want to go to any of the dances during my junior and senior year in high school. 1-Too expensive! 2-I didn't want to experience the obscene-ness of it all... But I went because a friend had asked, but that was senior year and the only prom I went to.

franciscanheart Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 homecoming is bad but prom is worse. homecoming my date had $300 just for the night of... that doesnt include tickets, dress, mum, garter, flowers..... everything seems more expensive for prom, even though youre getting the same things. id guess the only thing that took more money was the inordinate amount of alcohol and drugs people felt the need to have for afterward... (or in some cases, before as well as after)
