Proud2BCatholic139 Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 First Saturday's also...remember that you can get a plenary indulgence for First Saturdays under the same conditions.

Sojourner Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 The going to confession 8 days before or after ... does that mean you have to go 8 days in a row, or go within 8 days on either side of the feast?
Didacus Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I think I'll take advantage of Papa Bne's declaration to dedicate my prayers for my grand-mother and grand-father... Explain to me however.. please... the 'Saturday thing' and 5 month period... I know I know, for a craddle Catholic, I have a lot to learn. Everyone's a critic. Thanks for your replies... :

Sirklawd Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 ooo. this is well.. cool! question, does "5) Detachment from sin." mean anything specific.. or is it simple "dont sin, avoid the temptations of sin"

It means that you have a resolve to avoid and resist sin. Temptations are a part of life and so to have one is not an indication of attachment. Christ had temptations. Also it should be noted that if this part is not fullfilled it is still a partial indulgence and a great grace. Edited December 1, 2005 by thessalonian
Didacus Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 What would the fruits of the indulgences be? I have a bit of trouble with that... Thanks for your reply to the 5 saturday things... (ANd I do assume that the Saturday mass does not liberate one from his Sunday obligation if the indulgance is to be valid..)

Perhaps some greater respect for Church authority.
Thanks for your reply to the 5 saturday things... You would have to go saturday and sunday.

N/A Gone Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 indulgances still strike a cord with me still. The idea that we literally will be punished for a sin does not seem accurate or right to me. The concepts of purgatory i have always been taught was the finishing of the sanctification process, that the sins themselves are paid for on the cross, but we still need edifying. So, the idea of doing some act and than getting forgiveness bothers me. Now, if it was that the indulgances helped with the sanctification process than I would work with that. But right now it seems bizarre to me.
N/A Gone Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 yea, I read over the ewtn link..I just dont have warm/fuzzys with this. There is no way I could defend this concept to myself or others.
EcceNovaFacioOmni Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 My extremely simple explanation: The sins of those in purgatory are already forgiven but still carry temporal punishment. Purgatory is where you serve those punishments. Penance on earth for confessed sins can allow you to bypass purgatory. You have to perform certain penitential actions in order to gain the indulgence.
CCC 1030 All who die in God's grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven.
