I will not speak for the Work. If you have direct questions, I suggest that you contact the Work directly.

Also, the email that you propose to send probably will not be responded to, if sent in that tone. I would suggest that you use more tact.

Those are the rules of the order. If it does not allow you to, accept it and find another order.

I had a friend who so desired to be a priest. He has a tattoo. Through discernment, he felt called to a particular order and thus lived with them for sometime. When they found out he had a tattoo, he could no longer be a part of the order.

Although he was heartbroken, he saw this as a sign from God and still sought other orders and is thus in Alabama in the seminary of his dreams.

Everything happens for a reason. Trust God and be humble enough to walk away and still discern your call.

If they don't reply I'll know what to think of them.
Dear Sir or Madam,

I am bastard child, as such I can't join Opus Dei as a full fledged member. Why must this be? Why must I pay for the choices of my parents? You claim to be "pro-life", but you reget the fruit of the movement which you claim to support.

I would greatly appriceate the answers to my questions.

God Bless,
How about.

Dear Sir or Madam,
something about how you would like to/felt called to join Opus Dei
(a whole paragraph or two depending on how much detail you put in)

But I was concieved/born out of wedlock and as a result, I cannot....

Now maybe something like
I don't understand why this is. ...

That might be a better way to start. I don't know if I would put that in about "pro-life" (though you have a point there)

That sounds weird. I know priests with tattoos... One of them has a tattoo of a picture of the Holy Eucharist (bread + a chalice) and underneath it says "A priest forever." It is really beautiful, a sign that he wants to persevere to the end.

I also know another who has a tattoo of Our Lady of Guadelupe

I mean, if he has a tattoo of something disgusting or sacreligious then i could see why... but what if it is something holy?

Wierd? Nah. Knowing priests with tattoos isn't a rule for every order. The order he was first discerning had the rule, holy or not.......and he abided by it.

The seminary where he is at presently has no rule against tattoos and therefore he is studying to be a priest.

I'll know my first priest with a tattoo, but there are many different rules with different orders. That's why it's called discernment.

well, that's good that he is still able to go to seminary... i am glad there are seminaries that accept guys with holy tattooos... I think there is something really awesome about having something like the Sacred Heart of Jesus etched into your body forever.

although I'm just weird like that

ps Anyone closes this thread and/or warns me I'll flip.

Hmmm....
You start by saying being a love child isn;t a bad thing however the way i see it is that you think it is because you can't fill in a box on application forms. Hey my father died when i was nine i can't fill out the fathers details section on applicaion forms. Application forms should not be the deciding factor on how you view your life.
I think you need to seek prayer for this as you may have some issues you need to work out.
Jesus still died for you! understand you are still a beautiful child of God.
I'm sorry Opus Dei won't take you, It seems strange but if that the rules thats the rules.
maybe some prayer to forgive you mother might be in order too?
Prayers,
Fundy

You could have easily been one of the 44 million American children who didn't see the light of day because of their mothers decision.
I am glad your mom made the life choice :)
And I see the "Mother's Maiden Name" box.

Write something funny in it for God's sake. You, unlike most other people, are lucky enough to have free hand to write whatever you want in the box.
Well forgive me, but I just can't get over it. Do you think it's easy not being able to fill in "Mother's Maiden Name" on applications?

I don't understand why this is so difficult. It's not that she doesn't have a maiden name -- if she never married, it's whatever name she has now. Just put that in there.
