Does anyone know what they are doing here....Obviously its the 'take up your cross daily' but is this called anything specific, and is it practiced in other communities/orders? Thanks!
I remember 'hands under the scapular' from The Nun's Story! I think they were fictitious Benedictines as well. Benedictines always look so elegant, must be because they have had over a thousand years of practice! It is so strange how Franciscans often tuck the scapular into the belt. Most others just let it hang so that it lays flat and neat. When I first met the PCCs, I was worried that they didn't even wear a scapular because this was so unusual. Another Roswell PCC holding her hands this way-you're right Emily Ann, it must be a monastic thing! maximillion Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 I think most nuns/sisters are taught to keep their hands still and 'silent' when they are not in use..............for some this involves having them under the scapular if the habit has one. It has to do with the constant state of busy we experience generally in the world, and is an antidote to this. Even now, so many years out of the convent if I am at all agitated, folding my hands calmly as if still under my scapular has a calming effect on me.

Studiumecclesiae Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Yes they're all French. They've got two monasteries there. They're contemplative nuns. Yes I like this sentence, I think it comes from Carmel. But it's not my spirituality, too tough for me.
I doubt she was exclaustrated! Exclaustration is when a religious leaves religious life for a time. They are bound by the vows and to the community but live in the world, usually have a job and almost never wear the habit. One asks for exclaustration for a very serious reason and usually it is when one is discerning whether to leave or not. She probably just got permission to go to the Abbatial Consecration....pray that Praire du Sac starts building SOON! They really need a new monastery. Their old one is full of mold, usuitable and too small!

They are not very respectful in general, but at least they are someone civil towards the sisters. They are there at least one Saturday a month. It is soo relieving when they are there. The CFR Friars go as well. It is amazing what a difference it makes to have people praying along side you, especially religious.

I am glad I did not go into the cloister thinking that! Would've gotten some weird looks from the nuns when they went to the dentist and I called THAT being 'exclaustrated'!!
