dUSt Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 Actually, it's all wrong. It's coke. Texas waitress: "Would you like a coke with that?" Yankee Customer: "Sure" (uncomfortable silence) Texas waitress: "Okay, what kind?"
cathgirl Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 Pop, it just wouldn't be the same if it was called something else. :)
grapeape Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 i agree with dUST...here in the south its all coke!
joemal1117 Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 You forgot "tonic" It;s what my G'ma and my mom's aunts usd to ask me. "Would you like some tonic?" I had to specify Coke or I might have been given a glass of Moxie!
VeraMaria Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 Again....SODA!!!!!!! Come to Miami and ask for a "pop" they'll be SO confused!!!!!!!!!
MrsFrozen Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 Personally, I drink pop. It is pop. It will always be pop. God bless. :)
Petrus Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 It's SODA in California too. I think it has to do with people's main way of processing data. People who call soda "pop" tend to have more of an auditory classification of the world, while those who call soda "soda" tend to have a scientific classification of the world, because the characteristic bubbles in soda are its "soda-ness" similar to the "soda-ness" in sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). However, I have no ideas to explain the geographic distribution of these classifications.
littleflower+JMJ Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 SODA? POP? SODA POP? your kidding me right? COME ON GUYS THATS WHAT THEY CALLED IT IN WELCOME BACK KOTTER...... BACK IN THE DAYS!!! Thomas Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 In my area it's Pop. In fact, I think it's 'Pop' in all of Canada. I've really never heard 'Soda Pop' or 'Soda' except in movies from the 1950's.
VeraMaria Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 lol, i had never heard "pop" b4.....
Colleen Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 oh please! it's SODA! it says so RIGHT ON THE CAN! pop is just the fizzy sound SODA makes. it's not the actual thing. SODA pop is a wishy-washy way out of the situation. coke is a biased term because it only refers to one brand of SODA. this :pepsi: or : p e p s i : is a can of SODA of the brand "Pepsi"
Thomas Michael Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 (edited) Throughout my lifetime, with my family, it was always referred to as "soda". Must be a Mason-Dixon line thing... :P Edited February 26, 2004 by Thomas Michael
