Jarrah Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Congratulations Nunsence, I am very happy for you and will pray you find your home at last. Btw I live close to this Carmel and visit the chapel there quite often. I love praying there because it is so peaceful. I've met Sr. Scholastica but don't know any of the other nuns.
Then ssshhhh Jarrah - don't tell the formator I might hang around Melbourne until the new Harry Potter movie opens. Actually, I mentioned to her about perhaps staying until the movie opens and she wasn't sure if I was kidding or not so she said that perhaps if I felt HP was more important than entering Carmel, I might not have a true vocation after all. I told her I was joking and she looked relieved. Yes, Sr S is a dearie and at 90, she still manages to get to almost every Hour of the Office. She entered two years after the convent was founded and is the only 'original' sister left. Feel free to email me if you want. I probably won't be allowed too many visitors as postulant, but if you are nearby, you might want to come to the clothing Mass. The actual ceremony is private, but I am assuming that the habit is blessed at a Mass, like it was when I was clothed last time. I am hoping that I can get clothed in 6-9 months since I've been a postulant on and off for over a year already at one place or another, but I am leaving it up to God's will for that.

I sent you an email with her photo.
Orans Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010
Well, I can stop feeling jealous of those with countdowns now. The Prioress of the Nedlands Carmel phoned me tonight and said that the Chapter has voted to accept me into the postulancy. She said that the formator (Novice Mistress) would contact me next to discuss the entrance date and other details. I am very happy. I am thinking that Oct 15th would be a great day to enter Carmel (St Teresa of Avila feast day). I just wanted to share my joy with the pham. I am a little stunned by the date today as well (Sept 11th). For so many it is a day of sad memories, but for me now, it is a day of great joy. I am going to offer extra prayers for all of those who have experienced loss on this day, and ask God to bless them. I do believe that you have a genuine call to Carmel, and what I've read in other thread about your experience in the last months with this community is very hopeful for a good match. I'm really delighted for you, and happy for them too. Many blessings as you prepare to take the step and know that I will continue holding you in loving prayers, Orans

If you see the first, how could you possibly stand to enter before you see the finale? And that'll be in JULY!!! MarieLynn Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Congratulations Nunsense!! I have been out of the loop for awhile, went out of the quake zone for over a week, and have just caught up on VS news! I am so happy for you, and I feel that this time it will be for KEEPS. This Carmel and you appear to be a very good fit, and I wish you all the Blessings that can be bestowed. I am a firm believer that the Good Lord works in mysterious ways. Do you have a definite entrance date yet?

HopefulBride Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Ok so I got a phone call yesterday from the vocations directress (no it wasn't the long awaited phone call ) but it was to tell me that the letter from my SD had arrived and that the superior should contact me shortly with the formal/official decison (I hope they still want me) I also heard from my confessor/other SD and he is on board for a letter of recommendation so YAY!!!!! So now I am doing a pre-countdown countdown. I am told I should hear within the next couple of weeks, I am crossing my fingers and storming the heavens. Keep me in your prayers!

vee Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 As some of you saw on Monday I updated my status to say I had written (emailed) a Carmel asking what steps are necessary to be considered for a live in. Three full days have passed which Im trying NOT to count and I havent heard anything. I know they have to pray about things, discuss things with each other and the Holy Spirit, and that I have to learn patience and can offer up this waiting as a sacrifice, however, the anticipation remains! Maybe I will go alphabetize my books....

Even after I had been accepted, I still had to wait to hear back from the formator about an entrance date, so start getting used to waiting for things.... Carmelites do not move fast as a rule! I think that alphabetizing things is a very good way to use your time right now. Today I filed my income taxes for OZ and renewed my Oz passport which had expired. I also did all my laundry and uploaded two chapters onto my book blog. The secret to having patience is just keeping busy!
she_who_is_not Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 (edited) I finally worked up the courage to contact a community that I have felt drawn towards and that several religious have suggested for me. I received a lovely letter from them encouraging me in my discernment, but informing me that as a convert I will need to wait another 1-3 years before beginning formal discernment. That is quite a count down. It's a good thing I have so much debt to pay off. Edit: Freudian slip: worked out instead of worked up Edited September 16, 2010 by she_who_is_not

In the grand scheme of life though, 1 to 3 years is really small. It sure doesn't feel like it when you are told to wait that long, but that will have passed before you know it! For me, this is my LAST DAY on phatmass before I leave! I'm driving up with my family tomorrow morning and will be entering prepostulancy on Sunday. I'll still have internet access there, so I'll be checking in as a prepostulant shortly! I probably won't be on quite as much, but I'll be around.
