I think it is important to believe in the whole of the scriptures...as for literally...who then is to pick and choose what to take as literal and not to take as literal? And how does one go about choosing?.

Remember someone saying that it is the Holy Spirit who guides you when reading the Bible.

This is where you are mistaken...the church doesn't say what the truth of the bible is...the bible says what the truth of the church is...we know what the church is to be and what a Christian is to be by reading the bible...we know how we are to be by reading the scriptures...not by what the church tells us.
The early Christians must of had a hard time doing this without knowing which books were the inspired word of God.

So in other words, Jesus meant this forreal?
Matt. 26:26 "And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it; and he gave to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body."

Or is that the one exception? How do you explain that one away?
I don't explain it away...He took the bread...He blessed it...He broke it...He gave it and said...This is my body; this signifies and represents my body. This would not be hard to see what He was saying if you would understand it as they would have...being that it was the Passover and there is alot of meaning and significance with it.

But the 7 days of creation don't signify and represent eons.

Your inconsistency would be charming were it not so pitiable.

5  God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.
8  And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.
13  So the evening and the morning were the third day.
19  So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
23  So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
31  Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Evening and morning equals one day...should not be hard to understand...even for such a brilliant mind as yours.
But then again when you use images such as that one I might question your intelligence. Why is it that many of you use images such as this to mock someone. I don't get your humor at all...I find it rude and insulting not just to me but to the person in the image. Not very catholic of you...shame on you all who continue to act in this manner. I guess the conviction is not there...that's not good

Misguided and unbiblical? What a claim to make, but coming from you, I will not take offense. You obvious aren't spirit led in any of your responses so don't bother praying for me but better yet pray for yourself.

There has always been a wide variation of opinion on how long creation took. Some said only a few days while others argued for a much longer, indefinite period. Those who believed it took a much longer period appealed to the fact "that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day"[2 Peter 3:8; Psalms. 90:4], that light was created on the first day, but the sun was not created till the fourth day[Genesis 1:3, 16], and that Adam was told he would die the same "day" as he ate of the tree, yet he lived to be 930 years old[Genesis. 2:17, 5:5].

I believe science has told us that God's 6 days of creation did not happen in 144 hours. I believe science as shown the Earth is several billions years younger than the universe. It does not contradict the bible to believe that billions of years[Earth years] are between day 1 and day 2.

Louis, I'm going to do you a solid. I'm going to pretend that you've ceded your argument, and are continuing only out of pride. For your sake (and for my faith in man), I refuse to believe that you are actually so dull as to not be able to see how obscenely inconsistent your views in this matter are.

I shall now leave you to wallow in the intellectual squalor born of your idolatry of the Bible as the be-all-end-all of Christianity as well as your logical inconsistency and refusal to open your heart to the Holy Spirit.

So basically, anyone that does not hold to your interpretations of scripture is not being guided by the Holy Spirit. How/where did you receive such an authority?

The pride lies at your end not mine...it's clearly seen by your fleshly responses...and if you can't see that it's because you are so deep in it you can't see past it...as for you reference to the bible and my thoughts toward it gives more evidence on my behalf...you might want to check yourself...to see if that spirit that is leading you is the Holy Spirit.

If this wasn't symbolic and the bread which He gave to His disciples was not being represented as His body then your claiming that It was His actual body which He broke there and gave it to His disciples to eat? Things can be clearly understood if you weren't so proud in your own intellect. Read the verse in It's original language or better yet in the language in which He would have spoken it in.

Vulgate:

This is too easy. Give me something difficult.

So basically, anyone that does not hold to your interpretations of scripture is not being guided by the Holy Spirit. How/where did you receive such an authority?
No...I never said that...I'm open for correction if it can be backed biblically and if the spirit agrees with it...but if you respond to me in such a manner as to degrade me you are obviously not being led by the Holy Spirit...as for authority we have gone through this before so I won't bother answering this...
