Republicans And The Environment

we can bring lions and tigers... we can bring two of every animal... hopefully we can somehow throw some oceans on there too.

but I do think we should pick one animal and leave them out, like Noah probably did with unicorns, so we can turn them into some myth that no one believes could have ever existed.

Mosquitos. Tell kids myths about tiny vampire that spread filth and disease.

hmmm i dunno... I'm thinking Giraffes would make a pretty fun mythical creature.  Think about it, if there were no giraffes on earth and someone made up a story about how they used to exist with their ridiculously long necks and yellow and brown fur, you wouldn't believe them would you?

(at what point does this count as totally wrecking FP's thread?  :P)

The thing is, if we use mosquitos over time we can blend in vampire lore until the mythical mosquitos are essentially little flying Bela Lugosi Draculas with long noses. Or Count Orlock, if you prefer. Adorable little capes and everything. Even make them talk in little squeaky Transylvania accents.

on an unrelated note, you can find pretty much anything you want on google image search.  what an age we live in.

Hm... An excellent idea.

We could compromise: Get rid of giraffes and mosquitos, morph them with vampires, but keep the funniest elements of each animal. Flight, long necks, yellow hair with brown spots, long pointy needle noses, Transylvanian accent, cute little capes, and also pestilence and disease.

Whatever we do - get rid of those mosquitos! God's only mistake IMO.

these are much more terrifying than unicorns lol.

anyway, I'm pretty sure we've solved the issue of the environment here.  vampire mosquito-giraffe hybrids are the answer to all life's problems.

Of course I'm speaking in general. And I never said there weren't republicans who didn't support the environment. But when I identified myself as a republican, there was a lot of pressure to make fun of environmentalists and write them off as tree-hugging dopers.

Thats because many in the forrest service are even "conservitive" because "tree hugging dopers" do things like build houses where nature has called for wildfires then get upset at controlled burns that prevent the forrest from having a devastating fire.  Wolves in yellowstone are another example of pitting political interests where liberals have allowed farms at the park's boarders, a conservitive buys the farm then gripes about the wolves...but it was liberal policy that created the issue that the conservitives were trying to fix.

My brother worked in the forestry service for many years and him, and all of his friends, were very conservitive...there were the rare liberals, but they didn't last long becuase their policies were not practical and were too touchy-feely.

I am for conservation, use of national parks, even having many forrestry agents.  However, I see many flaws with the so-called "conservation efforts" of the tree hugging dopers today....like building an off shore wind farm in one of the most scenic turist destinations in the northeaster US...just beacuse it's renewable.

In my area conservitives are against the huge project that would get "renewable' energy down to us as it would destroy alot of scenic land, whilst the liberals see it as a way to get jobs and sound very good to the people.  Their adds are insidious.  Conservitives want the project done the alternate way (more expensive) as it is not only safer but will not destroy hunderds of thousands of turism dollars...but they are accused about caring only about turism money and not people.  Go figure.  They can't win.

Much better to destroy the environment in 3rd world countries! I concur.

Its not not an either/or.  Large energy companies have wrought immense ecological destruction on the developing world and parts of the developed world.

Pharmaceutical companies forcing their vaccines on the population

I bet. Did you enjoy San Antonio? What did you particularly like about NYC?

I don't know know why you keep brining in Pharma.  Yes, the large pharma companies also leverage their economic power for rent seeking and instituting policies that are deleterious to the general welfare.

You keep changing your story - you jump from hyperbole and over generalization to saying you didn't say such and such a thing.

The point is that you are tarring and feathering all Republicans with the same brush. Even if a majority of them hold one point of view, that doesn't mean that ALL of them do, and it doesn't mean that you need to worry about what others might think of you if you choose to hold some of the majority views and not all of them. Just be true to what you know is right.

There are republicans who support environmentalism.  The RNC and the various republican PACs and 501(c)4s, and super PACsactively fight against environmental reform and the republicans in power at the federal level, and in most state bodies controlled by republicans, are almost universally hostile to environmental protections and industry reforms.

Also its sad that one idea is always tied to something else. If you believe one conservative thing all of a sudden you have to believe all he other conservative things or else you are called names. Sad day

In addition, the debate is controlled by extremists.  If a Republican is only 99.999999999999999999% adherent to the extreme conservative orthodoxy, he or she is immediately called a RINO.  If you want examples, follow the comments on the blog Illinois Review http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/

And on the left, I'm sure you could find examples of being accused of being a bigot if you do not support same-sex marriage.

Oh brother...

The dirtiest countries in the world are also the most marxist-socialist.  The dirtiest country ever was probably the marxist-socialist USSR and the now the marxist-socialist PRC is giving it a run for it's money.  The dirtiest country in North America?  Socialist Mexico.  The cleanest?  Free-market Canada.   Same for south america:  dirtiest?  hmm... the cleanest is easily free-market Chile, the dirtiest?  There'd be a lot of contenders, but socialist venezuela would probably be up there as would socialist brazil.  Socialist Argentina was a dump last time I was there.   Anyways, point made here.  Go to any other continent you'll see the same thing.

Unlike the "left", those on the "right", ie. Republicans and libertarians actually have conserved and kept a clean country and want to continue doing so.  Opposing democratic proposals that are labeled as "environmentalist" but are actually just re-packaged socialist ideas, does not make someone "against the environment."

But, like my brother has taught me, fighting against blanket "environmental reforms" does NOT mean that you do not care about the environment.  Some of the most dangerous clean-energy legistation has been passed because it was "feel good" when in reality it destroys the ecosystem or the financial systems of the places.  The republicans do wrong things, but they literally cannot win in this media circus.

Deer ticks are a huge problem.  Why are they a problem?  Because we now lack predictors to kill deer and the bleeding hearts don't want to kill Bambi.  So if the conservatives put through measures to allow more deer to be killed during hunting season they are told they are horrible human beings.  However, now the deer have multiplied and Lyme disease and other tick borne illnesses have skyrocked.  However, we don't get reports of the children disproportionately suffering because of  these illnesses.  Just the mean Bambi hating conservatives who want to play with their guns and shoot innocent animals.  (And we can't re-introduce preditiors because people are too stupid to lock up their trash, or not leave their chiowwa out unattended)
