Makarioi Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 If I make to 100 or any age close to it, I hope that I look as good as Sr. Francis Gabriel!!
Sr Mary Catharine OP Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 At the time we weren't allowed to stay in the parlor doing the meal but we could come back for cake. Well, everyone thought I was GONE so they just cut it! After that, the community changed things and now most of the community comes down to the parlor to visit during the reception. The sister making profession usually doesn't get to eat until much later anyway!

sr.christinaosf Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Wow...I'm not doing anything that fancy, just making a couple rhubarb jello cakes for our upcoming ice cream social.I hope and pray it goes well as I've never made this before. I would like to use milk instead of water since I think it would add a nice flavor and I have some milk on hand that was starting to turn sour; sour ilk can be very good in baking. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, let me know please. Thanks, Sister Christina Mariehttps://ourfranciscanfiat.wordpress.com PS: I could consider doing an article about it if I don't already have an article scheduled by another one of our sisters in honor of the Feast of the Sacred Heart on Friday.

sr.christinaosf Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 This cake recipe sounds really easy - I think it may be referred to as a "dump" cake because you just DUMP everything in; first the rhubarb, sugar, jello, cake mix, melted butter and water (or milk if I decide to be adventurous. I always try to pray to St. Martha and Mary when starting a culinary adventure.
NadaTeTurbe Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I think we need to open a cooking tread ! I have lot of recipes to share
sr.christinaosf Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Here's a picture as requested. My mom helped me make two cakes for our social. Can't wait to taste it. Sr. Christina M. Neumann

sr.christinaosf Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 I just tried the tiniest corner but not really enough to judge well. We'll be serving it Sunday for our pie and cake ice cream social. What counts, I guess, is if the guests enjoy it.
vee Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 Thanks for sharing! I hope your social goes well, then again how could it not go well with such a theme!
sr.christinaosf Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 I'm going to make a cherry supreme dessert with the leftover ice cream that gets melty - a crumbly crust, ice cream, more crust on top and topped off with hot cherry pie filling - yummy.

My blood sugar is rising to dangerous levels just reading this! It sounds wonderful! Although living alone has its burdens, as a diabetic I'm glad I don't live in Community. I still have a "sweet tooth" and the only way I can keep it under control is to limit the number of sweet things I have in my house. Some diabetics are able to exercise "portion control," but not me. Sometimes I'm tempted just by reading about desserts or seeing pictures on the Internet. It's better for me that I simply limit what I let into my house.
sr.christinaosf Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Our Social went pretty well. We even had a reporter from the local newspaper here. It'll be interesting to see what they print in tomorrow's paper.

Yaatee Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Sr. Mary Magdalene's First Profession with her cake made by her novice mistress! Beautiful picture overall. Lovely nun. Lovely cake. Someone has studied (or taught?!) cake decorating.

Sr. Christina, My husband just froze 11 pints of sweet cherries, and we prepared and froze enough sour pie cherries for over 15 pies and put into a freezer stuffed with cherries and peaches from previous crops!
