stagefairy Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 Why do you date? Is there a purpose? Lets hear your thoughts!
Sojourner Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 If I were dating, it would be to discern marriage. Casual dating, i.e., that which is not part of the process of discernment, is simply not worth my time and energy.
homeschoolmom Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 My husband doesn't really like me to date all that much...
franciscanheart Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 oooooooooooooooh my goodness.... dating wow.... *runs to go get her materials only to return hours later* ill be back around 11ish and you will definitely have an ear full!!!!
Aloysius Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 discerning marriage is the only reason someone should date. the other type of dating is partly responsible for today's high divorce rate and lack of family values.
theculturewarrior Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 I haven't been on a date since december 2002. I would like to to try courting next time, but most girls demand dating.
StColette Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 (edited) I don't date for the simple fact that what I would get out of dating someone, respectfully and morally, I can simple have with a good guy friend. I mean seriously you find companionship when you date someone but it's the same type of companionship as with a good friend. I mean a good healthy Catholic relationship isn't based on the physical assets of a relationship but rather on the mental assets. You cut out all the physical stuff that occurs with a lot of dating a you simply have the relationship you would with a good friend. Don't get me wrong I've dated before and I came to the realization that what I was getting out of the relationship I could get just as being friends and it would not put stress on anyone. Other people on PM have this same philosophy and I'm sure they'll be happy to share more into with you. edited to say: but if I did decide to date someone it would be for the discernment of marriage. homeschoolmom Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 [quote name='theculturewarrior' date='Aug 9 2004, 08:53 PM'] I haven't been on a date since december 2002. But i really like the idea of it having a more family feel to it.
franciscanheart Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 agreed with most.... like i said an ear full is to come later
stagefairy Posted August 10, 2004 Author Posted August 10, 2004 Wow! I feel really at home here! I don't date (well, I do, but the discernment part is over, because we are married ;-) ). I met my husband on a mission trip to the Philippines when we were both teenagers and to make a long, romantic story short, we didn't date really. We courted mostly and had some dates after we were engaged. I could say a lot more, but I am looking forward to hearing an earful later... :-)
immaculata Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 I'm not dating anyone currently, and I don't plan on dating anyone for a good long time. I got my heart broken last year, so I'm staying away from boys until they grow up and become real men.
franciscanheart Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 okay im running to get my materials and ill be back to post!!!!
reelguy227 Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 yes we are holding our breath hurry hurry hurry.
stagefairy Posted August 10, 2004 Author Posted August 10, 2004 I can type and hold my breath at the same time.... go me!
franciscanheart Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 Okay Ive gathered materials, although I seem to have misplaced a few, so let me type it up and then you shall know what i think
IcePrincessKRS Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 I "dated" one guy for 4-5 months when I was 19. He turned out to be a jerk and I broke up with him. Then a year later I met Matthew, we were together (I can't really call it dating since we were long distance lol) for 3 months, got engaged, waited a year and a half for me to graduate college and got married just after my 22nd birthday.
