Hello.
Kindly Rethink Your position, before You make negative comments about a man who has the chance to become the 2nd Roman Catholic President in this Nation's Long History, 228 years & counting. Only 1 man of the Catholic Faith, became President of the United States, *1-John Kennedy Won the 1960 Election by .17% , the actual final margin of Victory was JFK= 49.72% and RMN=49.55%, The Electoral Vote was JFK=303 & RMN=219, the popular vote = JFK=34,227,096 & RMN=34,107,646. I know most people who were Roman Catholic and Voted JFK into office were especially proud of His Leadership and StatesmenShip and that Someone of Our Faith was finally Our President. My Own Father and Mother Both said "We wouldn't be very good Catholic's if we didn't vote for John Kennedy."
Did You realize He also won the Pulitizer Prize in History for His book "Profiles in Courage"! How many People before and just after JFK was elected would have predicted the Greatness of this Man, who like John Kerry was a Highly Intelligent, Well Educated and a thoughtful man with service in time of war. After returning from ww II, JFK devoted his life to public service and that before the 1960 election JFK's Faith did become an issue, JFK was able to refute that with this now famous Speech and in particular with this statement before the greater Houston Ministerial Association, September 12, 1960 "I am not the Catholic candidate for President. I am the Democratic Party's Candidate for President who happens also to be a Catholic. I do not speak for My church on public matters--and My church does not speak for Me." Also included in that speech were the following words.
"I ask you tonight to follow in that tradition--to judge me on the basis of my record of 14 years in Congress--on my declared stands against an Ambassador to the Vatican, against unconstitutional aid to parochial schools, and against any boycott of the public schools (which I have attended myself)--instead of judging me on the basis of these pamphlets and publications we all have seen that carefully select quotations out of context from the statements of Catholic church leaders, usually in other countries, frequently in other centuries, and always omitting, of course, the statement of the American Bishops in 1948 which strongly endorsed church-state separation, and which more nearly reflects the views of almost every American Catholic."
If You want to read that Speech in it's entirety go to the JFK library website @

This is a very similar Point of view that John Kerry adhere's to Today.
Now, Take a Long Look at John Kerry, who after He returned from the vietnam war has spent 34 years devoted to Public Service and the betterment of the poor, minorities, & working class. Have you really been listening to John and the other person, w, who only God and History can judge? But w, whose presidency has affected American live's now into the future in such a negative way, the list of all the certified reasons is just too long to mention today. All I'm trying to show You is that JFK and John Kerry Both have worked for the poor, the minorities, and the middle class. Please Understand I am not predicting anything for John Kerry, I am only outlining similarities between the First Catholic President and another Catholic Man, running for the Presidency. if You Really want to better understand John Kerry, a Stable, Consistant, Independent-minded Democrat, do not be influnced by the incumbant's tatics/lies. Go to John Kerry's Senator of Massachusetts website and do a little research @

I have another reference from the Son of the man that John Kennedy replaced as President. John Eisenhower, of course his Father was President Dwight D. Eisenhower a republican. John Eisenhower intends to vote for John Kerry and lists the reasons why @

http://www.theunionleader.com/articles_sho...l?article=44657

If You would like to read what Christian's & Christian republicans have to say about John Kerry and why they will vote for Him go to this Pittsburg post gazette article @

http://www.postgazette.com/pg/04291/396763.stm

If You want to understand John Kerry at the begining of His career in Public Service go to this C-Span.org website to read one of the most famous speech's of the 1970's. John Kerry's "How do You ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake? This Speech was before the Senate Foreign Relation's committee @

http://www.c-span.org/vote2004/jkerrytestimony.asp

Finally if You would like to view The John Kerry for President website that outline's His Plans and Goals for America, this is His Website @

http://www.johnkerry.com/index.html

One last thought and this is a line from Ronald Regan but it is a statement that is of particular relevance today and I quote "Are You Better Off Today Than You Were 4 Years Ago?" Most of the citizens of the United States would say No and list several reasons why. Many Nations throughout the world because of the actions of w, would agree. Remember Your vote is important in Every Election especially This One, but do not be foolish and waste Your vote, do Your Homework and Research John Kerry. Making Important decisions on hearsay in this Important Election can be as critical to All of Us as was JFK's Election to the Presidency by such a Narrow margin in 1960. Where would We all be if RMN was elected then and which man has History judged to be the Greater President, I would say JFK, Our First Catholic President. Don't You Think John Kerry Deserve's this same consideration for the Presidency? It's Your vote, Don't waste it.

Mrs. Bro. Adam

But John Kerry is not Catholic in action or words, but name only. Have you not heard the debates? This man supports abortion...this man supports homosexuality. How can you support such things and still be Catholic? Simply, you can't.

U.S. is better off today than four years ago. We're safer than before, and constantly working on that.

Fact is, Kerry changes his mind so frequently that he doesn't know the right thing to do at any given time.

844, Mrs. Bro Adam said it, and I'm gonna say it too, just because.

John Kerry is simply not Catholic. He is not JFK. He stands on opposite ends of the Church on many moral issues. He crosses the morals he claims to have because he is in politics, and that's not the kind of integrity I'd look for in a President. There is nothing consistent about his mind-changes.

And he is not Catholic.

This is all I will say Because these are the Guideline's that a President of the United State's has to adhere to. Kindly go to the JFK website and read this speech because it explains this position very clearly.

http://www.jfklibrary.org/j091260.htm .

Each of these Presidents, JFK, LBJ, RMN, GF, JC, RR,GB, BC, & GB. Each and Every President has to seperate church and state. They are the President of ALL of the Citizens of the United States of America, Not just the Catholic's or the Baptists, Lutherens, Jewish, religions--All of Us, All religions, All Creeds, All the Time.
John Kerry was raised a Catholic and is still a Catholic, But He is a servant of the people who elected Him into office and must carry out the laws of this United States of America, Not the law's of Rome. John Kennedy was faced with very similar decision's. I hope that after You read John Kennedy's speech You will have a better understanding of some of the Hard, Tough decisions Each President has to make concerning His Religious Belief's. You may not like them, But they apply to All of the People, All of the Time.

Go in Peace.

844, you are really new, so allow me to once again clue you in...John Kerry says one thing about his beliefs, but does another. He says he is morally opposed to abortion but he refuses to bring his morality into his politics. A complete disregard for the Catholicism he wears on his sleeve.

How old are you that you want to vote for Kerry simply to make him the second Catholic president? 12? No offense to any other 12 year olds.

So why are you so enthusiastic about supporting a Catholic President because of the fact that he's Catholic if you know he won't act on his Catholic beliefs?

And you're right. A Catholic cannot impose his Catholic beliefs on the people, because of our Religious Freedom. But that's no excuse to avoid promoting Catholic morality. Because morality exists outside of the Catholic Church, and applies to more than just Catholics. It would not conflict with other religions, because it is morality that would be encouraged, not Catholic Doctrine.

The separation of church and state wasn't a good idea, I think. But it can still exist and can still work. John Kerry could use his advantage (correct and accurate teaching of the Church on morality) and promote it in his possible position of power, but he has expressed that he will not. There is no excuse for this. Basic morality doesn't conflict with other religions, but with the immoral society of today.
Anytime religion is mentioned within the confines of government today people cry, "Separation of Church and State".  Many people think this statement appears in the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution and therefore must be strictly enforced.  However, the words: "separation", "church", and "state" do not even appear in the first amendment.  The first amendment reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."
The Separation of Church and State has nothing to do with morality.

Go to the JFK Library and read John Kennedy's Speech.

One more thing you are entittled to Your opinion and I am to Mine. I am not impressed with an intellect that attempts to retaliate with insults. If You do not agree simply go Your own way. I will not insult anyone here and I expect the same treatment.

May God Bless All In Your House.

I'm sorry if I came off insulting. Your posts about JFK seem really naive though. JFK hasn't been declared a saint, last I heard. I would rather have no Catholic than a Catholic who won't bring his professed beliefs into his career.

Then why would you vote for John Kerry? He's the one who's injecting religion into his campaign.

Ash Wednesday

So we could have a 2nd President in history that, technically, qualifies to be a Roman Catholic president. So what?

It doesn't matter to him.

There is no question that if there is ONE potentially good outcome that would come from a Kerry presidency, it is a Catholic politician's actions thrown right in the spotlight for everyone to see, and this whole battle between Catholic politicians and the Vatican coming to a head. I think you could very well see him formally declared a heretic, publicly denied communion, or most of all, formally excommunicated.

If our friend Kerry gets in the oval office, this man would, at some point, have to meet with the pope in person and other high ranking Vatican officials. Not to mention formal visits to conservative Catholic countries like Poland. Don't be shocked if he is denied communion there and his stances on the non-negotiables becomes an issue, because it would. Times were different when Kennedy was president, and he wasn't so far in left field that he and other Catholics in the U.S. government were at direct opposition to the Vatican as they are now. Of course knowing Kerry, he would waffle and jump back just enough to a moderate zone to save his own butt, and anger a lot of liberals in the process.

Please everyone, please none.
John Kerry is a flip flop. I wear him on my foot everyday. Bush knows that you can't please everyone, and Kerry needs to see that too.

Sydney
which makes me think: How funny would it be if someone actually did make a pair of flip flops with John Kerry's face on them?
