As Pope John Paul the Great said, we don't make any sense as ourselves, so it's quite foolish to wonder why any one person would be attractive...attraction involves two people, not one, and it involves and engages both persons actively. However, when a man sees a woman, or a woman a man, their own sexuality makes sense in light of that person, and there is attraction because that realization of complimentary nature becomes a desire to share in that complimentary nature (which is a shadow of our desire to share in the divine marriage), and that desire becomes attraction, and that attraction, when noticed, becomes affection, and that affection, when reinforced, becomes passion, and that passion when committed becomes erotic love (not in the bad sense) and that erotic love, when infused with Christian contemplation and cooperation with grace, becomes a sharing in the divine love God intends for all of us to share.
