azaelia
I was just watching the Encore coverage of the Closing Mass at World Youth Day, and wondering why they were playing such hokey, feel-good, fluffy music complete with hand motions. I mean seriously...it had the feel of one of our "folk" choirs in some of the more liberal parishes up here in Maine. I didn't expect electric guitars and bongos from a Papal celebrated mass. Maybe it's just me. I wonder what Papa thought about it.

L5
The hand actions are sign language for the hearing-impaired.

Laudate_Dominum
Yeah.. the people who organize these things have very poor taste in my opinion. WYD in Canada was incredibly tacky. I imagine Germany will be tacky.. WYD in Rome was better than Canada, but it still had its moments. I'd like to see WYD traditional style.

Fidei Defensor
I dont have a problem with the motions/music, only the placement. It shouldnt be part of Mass. It should be done during other activities, but never during Mass.

Fides_et_Ratio
I watched a part of the Encore on ETWN and all I could think of were about 3 of Pope Benedict's works I've read... I bet he was sitting there perplexed... remembering what he wrote about the "liturgical innovations" that were surrounding him, yet rejoicing at all the people so interested in the faith... if only they didn't want/need the crappy music and cheap spectacle to make it "more exciting". Imagine... WYD--Gregorian Chant Style. Incense, candles (more than 6000), and NO guitars!!!! ... That'd be the day...
