Brother Adam Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Don't come here...I hate to say it too, for the sake of those professors who are absolutely wonderful. I'm going by the office shortly to pick up 6 petitions to enter closed classes. I can't even sign onto the network because it is so busy.
Proud2BCatholic139 Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Don't worry, my school is a joke too.
Brother Adam Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 I just informed the director of Enrollment that if I can't get the classes that I need, as I was promised when I came to this school I would sue the school.

Brother Adam Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 It is serious. And I am strong in my suggestion to anyone that they do not come to this school.

Yes, this school has a huge problem with a few things. I agree.
Brother Adam Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 One student brought up a phrase that I entirely agree with - class action. I'm keeping a log of everything that I do to attempt to get the classes that I need so no one can say I haven't tried.
Brother Adam Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 This is getting so absurd it's almost starting to be funny. I'm thinking of buying one of those smiley face T's.
philothea Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 That's awful, to charge so much money and not even allow you to make it worthwhile.
Thy Geekdom Come Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 I'd much rather petition the heck out of the school than sue them. It's a good school on the whole...they just need to set some proper priorities: 1. Save the more qualified professors for the students in that major. 2. Give the seniors and juniors less time to register (if they hadn't gotten the profs they wanted within a few days, they don't deserve two weeks to wander around unsure and then take them from us at the last minute). 3. Buy a back-up server for the network BEFORE making all these plans to improve the network next year (hey...you can get a back-up server in the meantime and then still do what you want to do next year!) 4. Build enough dorms to accomodate the students. 5. Restrict noise volume in the chapel wings of the dorms (seriously, the guy living above the chapel in my hall has subwoofers!). 6. Get more televisions...several hundred students in one hall with two cable televisions and one extra is just plain silly...half the time they're all watching the same thing and are just too lazy to consolidate their groups so some other group of students can watch what they want on one fo the tv's.

homeschoolmom Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 I have never really heard of a college or university that didn't have some sort of bottlenecking of the upper level classes.
Brother Adam Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 It has gotten to the point that it is beyond absurd though. All non-Theology students can take our CORE theology classes. I had a meeting with the registrar of the school today who listened to my concerns (she actually called the meeting). Just by looking at the numbers on the computer she saw that there was something wrong. She is meeting with the chairman of the theology department to try to solve the problem. 'bottlenecking' is one thing, but I won't even be able to graduate, and will have to spend at least an extra $10,000 because I can't get into the classes I need. This isn't an isolated incident either. Most of the students are having this problem. I will definitely give the school credit that they are trying to work on it now, and each induvidual person on staff, faculty, and administration are all good people, but together there are problems.
Brother Adam Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 I'm shocked. After 25 minutes I just got logged into the network. :

Can't they just make large 200 person classes for non majors that are lectures by the profs but essentially taught by TA's in recitation sessions?
theculturewarrior Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Every school is a joke. It's the information racket. Jump through so many hoops and buy so many textbooks and you'll get a certificate, which may or may not land you a job. Either way, your professor gets paid and the school administrators get paid, and I get paid, just not enough to buy groceries at the end of the month. That said, keep jumping through those hoops! Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard his second year. I'm not as competitive and ruthless as he is though. I don't think any body on Phatmass is.

jiyoung Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Agh, don't tell me that, I'm going as a theology major in the fall! *sigh* Would it be better to look up another school, or just grin and bear it?
