philothea Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Heh. I was explaining your situation to my husband while we were in the car earlier today. Before I could even finish he said, "I'd sue them." If they're going to admit that many people, they need more classes!
littleflower+JMJ Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 all i know is that school is so verrry expensive lol and classes should be available for everyone at that price lol an extra year could be more years of loans, which nobody wants
Brother Adam Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 yeah, unfortunately the problem gets pretty complex. Such as life...
Thy Geekdom Come Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005
cool. Sometimes being the squeaky wheel isn't enough... every once in a while you've got to be the deafening revving gory chainsaw of truth..
I hope they fix the problem in time for me!
zunshynn Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 (edited) What's a subwoofer? And are you talking about FUS? Now I'm sad. I spent hecka time on my application. To major in theology and communications. Now I'm wondering if I want to. Edited November 5, 2005 by zunshynn
franciscanheart Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 im pleased to say i made my decision against FUS before hearing all of this.... but all of this validates what i was already feeling. its not the right school for me and it seems there are some big issues that would make it even harder should i attempt an education there. im glad adam is honest with people about it.
Cow of Shame Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005
wow, please tell me this isn't copyrighted!
lol no, it just is a much better mental image than a stupid little wheel
qfnol31 Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005
Agh, don't tell me that, I'm going as a theology major in the fall! *sigh* Would it be better to look up another school, or just grin and bear it?
You could try my school. :
jiyoung Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 What would your school be? Eck, I'm already enrolled at Steubie for next fall though (I would've gone this fall but for financial aid problems). It was hard enough convincing my parents to let me go to a Catholic school they know the name of that's not like a big-name Jesuit "Catholic" school, but to one that they DON'T know (because they only Catholic school they know is FUS)...it'd be hard. hm.
qfnol31 Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 I'm at the University of Dallas. It's Catholic. We are also pretty well known, and the joke around here is we could be Ivy League and read more freshman year than any Harvard student.
jiyoung Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 If I decide to switch schools, it'll probably be to a school that has a good music program in addition to a good theology program...I've been thinking about perhaps double-majoring if possible. But agh! I don't know, I'd had my heart set on FUS for years and hearing all this.. =T

Adam's difficulties, but in general I never saw much more trouble with the FUS admin. than you would find in most schools. No matter what school you go to, the classes with the favorite teachers will fill up early. Actually, some of my favorite classes were ones with the less popular teacher. Just because Dr. Minto isn't as well known in the popular world as Dr. Hahn doesn't mean he isn't a fabulous teacher. (Maybe not a fair comparison since if it were permissible to worship a person, Dr. Minto would be the person I chose...). But even so, I first ended up in his class because I didn't want to bother trying to get into a Dr. Hahn class as a freshman. The next year when I had a choice, you couldn't have paid me to take Dr. Hahn over Dr. Minto. Also, with the exception of the special topics classes, the majority of the theology classes require at least two theology pre-reqs (granted, they don't always keep tabs on whether people have taken them.) I love my school and I am proud to have graduated from FUS, but if I had one complaint, it would be that I wish it were more academically challenging.
Anthony Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 I am in the process of applying to FUS for the graduate program in Catechetics and Theology. Should I reconsider my decision? I want to go to a small Catholic college because I really need to get away from the secular society that is so prevailent at UNL. Be thankful that you don't go here. For the past few semesters, I have had to put up with aweful, immoral teaching as well as difficulty getting into good classes. I am ready for a change and am really considering FUS. Should I still pursue my decision or look for a different college?
daugher-of-Mary Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 I'm in the process of applying for theology at FUS, but now I"m not sure. I would REALLY like to go to UD, but I don't think I can afford it. Any pointers from UD students about financial aid? Please PM me!!
franciscanheart Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 i was really intent on going to steubie for quite some time. i had heard a LOT about it from friends and friends of friends. i personally have decided against it, even though i know that once you finally do get into classes and into the groove of things (aside from other complications) that you would get a really great education. there are a couple of things that make me nervous about attending (though there are some things i thought would make me go there without a second thought). i was talking with a friend of mine recently about my concerns with steubie and he offered another suggestion: benedictine college. less expensive than both steubie and UD (which is close to home) and offers a lot of things i was looking forward to in a college environment. they arent charasmatic (which i have been away from to a degree) and they offer sports. i like sports. i like rooting for a football team or basketball team or whatever. i like that stuff. i also like that i could walk into benedictine and not be the only unsaintly person walking around. i want to go somewhere where i dont feel like an outsider or like i am being compared to others. i want a college that will shape me from the inside out so that when i leave i am truly more holy than when i entered. i think i would feel more pressured at steubie to put on a show than anything. but thats just me..... for those interested: www.benedictine.edu

Though our choir is singing for EWTN in two weeks.

I took Protestant Traditions and Native American Spirituality. Both classes really gave me a bigger picture and honened my apologetic skills.

Theoketos Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 UM A religious studies degree is alomost the exact same thing as Theology degree. ß
