It's Catholic nonetheless. Built in 1816-1819 under the direction of the Most Reverend Benedict Joseph Flaget, Bishop of Bardstown.

Why'd they tear it down?

is a proto-Cathedral the same thing as a Pro-Cathedral?

Due to work, I find that I attend two parishes regularly. I don't have pictures of my own but you can see pictures of one of the, Immaculate Conception at this website. I love it there but you guys here will probably hate it because of the padded seats. Say what you want. I like it and I hope that others might enjoy it, too.

No, it looks neoclassical which just reflects the style of that time period.
(I'm not a fan of neoclassical churches though... give me baroque, gothic, rococo anyday...)

I have better pictures than the ones that Curt Jester had on the parish website here.

News Flash!! There is going to be a special guest priest come on 22 July to say 7:30am mass. His name is Arinze and he is from Nigeria. How cool is that? :clapping:
Yep, me too.....and there is no TLM.  It is all Missa Normativa.  Vatican Council II the way it was intended.

Yeah, I know you start itching and so forth when TLM's come around. They make holy water for that, you know....

Personally I'm more a fan of stave churches/ small wood chapels with high altars, but you can't have everything. My church back home is very 70's looking, but more orthodox than one would have you believe AND it has both the Novus Ordo and an Indult community (of which I'm a member).

As I've said, I'm a both...and sort of guy.

my church was decorated very nicely for easter but since it's decorated that nicely for every other sunday i can't say i was overly impressed. it's always MORE decorated but im making the point that our churches should remain that beautifully kept always. ;)

btw - definitely just found out my parish is made up of 8,000+ families, not 2,000+ wow.

Here's the inside of my parish:

Now we have a tabernacle in the wall directly behind the altar though. :)
Edit: oh, and we're getting a big crucifix to be on the wall "floating" in front of the stained glass windows, so we won't just have the little dinky one anymore.

And the outside:

It's a cute little church. I wish it had more saint stuff though. :(
