Madame Vengier
I think that some of it has to do with personal perceptions. If someone is in a bad mood when they read something, they're more likely to take something that may not have been a jab as offensive, and post a response to that, rather than what the person meant (and I do think some people go looking for something to be offended by). I think it's best, when in doubt, to give the benefit of the doubt to people, and assume that what they're trying to say isn't coming out properly, rather than jump on someone. IOW, reading with charity is necessary.
Sweet.

CatherineM
I'm old enough to remember when gas was .19/gallon, and my first records were 78's. I do not live in a shoe, I live in a condo with the big smelly guy I'm married to, and the only kids I have are two foster sons who are now grown and gone. One just got out of the Navy, and the other plays baseball at a small college in Oklahoma.

Alycin
This thread was well-needed. I spoke with another phatmasser a few nights ago and asked her if she had noticed that phatmass had gone beyond the normal realm of sarcasm and rudeness and straight on into downright nastiness. She said that she, too, had noticed. Some of it can be attributed to misreading, as I know because someone completely and totally snapped at something they thought I said that I didn't say at all, but even then... you really need to think if nastiness is the appropriate response just because you may not agree with something someone says. Some things cannot be attributed to misreading and I think if we're all honest we can admit this. I know that in the past couple days I have made a couple of passive-aggressive posts in a certain thread and I h.ate that! I *should* h.ate it! I should hold myself accountable for not speaking with charity. I'm not saying everything has to be ooey-gooey sugar and spice...but there is a HUGE, HUGE line to be drawn between being firm in the WORD or teachings of the Church (this can still be done in charity and, if one so chooses, completely without sarcasm)... and being a jerk who comes off as a know-it-all. The more the latter comes out of our mouths, the less the former is going to make an impact on people. What's to happen when someone comes here looking for answers, or hope, or a friend who can help them get back on the right path? What if they have questions and they are scared to death to post them because they see how people with differing opinions treat each other? The vibe of the board right now would have sent me running in the opposite direction if I hadn't joined when I did... These are just things to think about that have crossed my mind. I love you all. You're a good pham. Even good phamilies have their disagreements... but the best of phamilies know when to step back and evaluate themselves when things start to get too tense or there is a lack of charity. I'm glad to see that a lot of us are willing to do that. Edited May 17, 2008 by Alycin
Theologian in Training
I deal by going to another forum...where people are nice, not a care in the world, and they all want to be happy people. I mean, they are clowns so I guess that is part of it

let_go_let_God
The phorum has changed. It has many times since I've been here. There are periods when things do become quite crass and rude and others where the lives of our phamily thrive. Such is the life of all people, but lately people have been going over board in the phorums. I agree this post is well needed. Phatmass definitely has been in my prayers especially for the blessings of charity and hope. Such things shall pass, but it will take the work of all of us to do so. God bless- LGLG
