The front is bib-like where the sides are open with a waistband. Very comfortable and pretty!

Lovely! I was looking for a 'like' smiley, but couldn't find one! Piccoli, I'd love to hear more about your experiences with the Poor Clares... but maybe through PM? ('Cos I'm falling in love with them and the PCC...)

Plus, I think it's worth just giving a  to the Franciscans full stop. Bought a few books about St Francis and St Clare today, but the more I read by and about them, the more I love them. V. amesome :)

I had looked into the Nashville Diminicans, and had actually been to see them last July. Actually, it was there that I realized my "pinch of Dominican"--I just loved the way the pray the Rosary! And I've always been able to appreciate the whole higher-learning-apologetics-theology charism. But, it just didn't click/feel right/fit. Though I loved them greatly, I just didn't feel called there.
I met Sr. Louise and Sr. Mary Anthony the same week I visited the NDs. It began with simple curiosity (I couldn't place their habit!). I was told they were Franciscan/Dominican, and after that, of course, I just HAD to speak with them, lol! I did, and wasn't disappointed. I gradually fell in love with them more and more and continued to correspond with them. And now... I HOPE to request my application next March. :). (God willing and lots of prayers!)
I'm glad you did get up the courage to do so! They are awe.some!! And it's cool that you and I met here on PM first!

And to be on-topic...how many contemplative Franciscan communities for women are there? I know of the Poor Clares and the PCCs... and after that I get all confused with the various communities... *getting old*

These are the ones I am aware of which include the ones you listed:

Cloistered Contemplatives
Poor Clare Nuns of the Primitive Observance
Poor Clare Colettines (stricter austerity; think Discalced Carmelite style)
Poor Clare Nuns of Perpetual Adoration (PCPAs; commonly associated with Mother Angelica)
Capuchin Poor Clares

Non-Cloistered Contemplatives (or semi-contemplative)
Little Sisters of St. Francis
Capuchin Sisters of Nazareth
Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate
Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal

I've not yet heard back but I did get a chance to visit with Sisters Anne Kateri and Felicity and that was a wonderful time. :) God is so good in all He does and this wait is no exception. I am finding perfect peace in my time without contact and could not be more grateful to God for His goodness. (Well, I could be since I'm human and my gratitude does not know the depths of God's goodness, but you know what I mean.)

Thank you!

So a quick google later, and in the UK there are the Poor Clares, the Colettines.... and it looks like the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate and of the Renewal (these are the two I keep getting mixed up!) have just crossed the pond.

Interesting...

USA age requirements tend to be a bit more stringent than in the UK, so it'll be interesting to see what the Franciscan sisters do over here. 'Cos I'm a bit older (36).

Anyway, back to regular scheduled topic stuff...

If you are interested in the active Franciscan life, I would highly recommend the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal. I think Franciscanheart would concur seeing as she is hoping to enter that order soon. ;)

The thing is, if you did enter them, it could present a problem about your age because you would have to come to the US for postulant and novitiate studies. You don't get sent to the other houses until you are professed. The convent that recently opened in Leeds only has 4 Sisters currently, so I'm not sure if they plan to send more or not. I think they are testing it out before they send a huge number. :)

Edited to add:

I just looked on the CFRs IRL page and their age limit is 35 with no belated vocations allowed. :cry2:

Too bad. I always try to direct people who are interested in the Franciscans to that order first. :(
