I've not yet heard back but I did get a chance to visit with Sisters Anne Kateri and Felicity and that was a wonderful time. God is so good in all He does and this wait is no exception. I am finding perfect peace in my time without contact and could not be more grateful to God for His goodness. (Well, I could be since I'm human and my gratitude does not know the depths of God's goodness, but you know what I mean.) Interesting... USA age requirements tend to be a bit more stringent than in the UK, so it'll be interesting to see what the Franciscan sisters do over here. 'Cos I'm a bit older (36). Anyway, back to regular scheduled topic stuff... (Sorry! Couldn't resist!)
If you are interested in the active Franciscan life, I would highly recommend the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal. I think Franciscanheart would concur seeing as she is hoping to enter that order soon. The thing is, if you did enter them, it could present a problem about your age because you would have to come to the US for postulant and novitiate studies. You don't get sent to the other houses until you are professed. The convent that recently opened in Leeds only has 4 Sisters currently, so I'm not sure if they plan to send more or not. I think they are testing it out before they send a huge number. Edited to add: I just looked on the CFRs IRL page and their age limit is 35 with no belated vocations allowed. Pax_et bonum Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 The Franciscan Sisters Minor have no upper age limit

That's useful to know, that postulancy/novitiate would involve going to the US. As for the age restriction... no worries, it is what it is. I'm a few years off any kind of entrance in any case, what one thing and another, and I'm really just at the browsing-around-and-learning-what-the-orders-are-about stage. My pull is towards the cloisters and silent contemplation, so the Poor Clares and the Colettines are at the top of my visit list. (And the Carmelites, too. But wrong thread...Unless anybody knows a Franciscalite/Carmeliscan order? ) Besides, who knows how things might change in the next few years, especially in terms of the orders that have come over to the UK... :hopeful: Thanks for your help and research! It's very much appreciated...

I discerned, however, that God is not calling me to form an order, at least not at this time. I do know of this order that combines both: Sisters Minor of Our Lady Immaculate (follow St. Therese's Little Way and are Franciscans)
franciscanheart Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 I was walking around in a quiet, beautiful neighborhood this evening, reading some writings of Saint Francis de Sales. Naturally, my vocation came to mind and I was so happy to be spending alone time with God, even if it was on a sidewalk next to a golf course in the middle of a ritzy neighborhood. It was an interesting contrast to hear my Palestrina playing softly from my music device in my pocket, soaking in Saint Francis and having very temporal sounds infiltrate every once in a while. I was so grateful to be able to be quiet with Him for a little bit during this holy week of the year. I can hardly wait to be in New York again but am of course finding so many blessings and opportunities here.

The significance of the image is so wonderful and, being of Mexican heritage, means a great deal to me. My grandma carries around a little statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe and I just love that.
