I know the nuns out there (I helped them with items they needed when they left Hanceville) and I spoke to Sr. John-Mark last eyar regarding the annual Nun Run. She's a real sweetie. They monastery also has 2 Westies. If I'm thinking correctly, she is probably about ready to make 1st profession.

Apparently you could bring any pet that was caged, leashed, in a covered aquarium, etc. Just so it couldn't get loose! My beagle, Lily, and I couldn't be there, so I asked the Sisters if she could be blessed in absentia. Nothing like trying to break the rules

There is something about that headpiece that makes the wearer seem not only holy but intelligent and credible. (Forgve me--I'm so ignorant I don't know what it is called.) That may not be so strange, as for example, in many cultures a high forehead is considered a sign of intelligence. I especially like the habit of the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church--I consider it one of the most beautiful habits EVER. [img]http://www.sistersofmarymotherofthechurch.org/zlcms/editor/uploads/images/Living%20as%20Community%20small_1.jpg[/img] But, the headpiece looks uncomfortable--as if it would leave marks and would feel too tight. Is this the case? I think if I were to join a communtity that wore a more traditional veil, I'd prefer one of light, soft materials. I think probably those religious in uncomfortable veils may regard any discomfort as penitential jwith as much joy as they can muster. And I have heard at least one story from a religious of just how pentitential it really can be and what a relief it was to her to transition to the modified veil. She had suffered constant headaches and migraines in the unmodified version. As she was telling me all this, it occured to me that it was a sure sign to me that she truly had The Grace of her vocation that she persevered through the constant headaches, migraines and suffering for many years indeed.
